I am the Main Character? No Thanks! (Volume 3): Chapter 2

One year ago

The Capital of the Yin Long empire was in a state of celebration as the royal parade made its way through the capital, showcasing the most important couple of this generation as their palanquins moved with the procession.

The bride had her snow white hair in a traditional bun, as was required by their culture, and was wearing meticulously tailored crimson ceremonial robes embroidered with dragon patterns that only the Royal family is allowed to wear, highlighting her golden eyes as she watched her partner with pure love and warmth.

Her partner, the groom, was also wearing crimson ceremonial robes with dragon patterns, complementing his well-built physique. The embroidery on his robes had been modified with black colors to match his eyes and hair.

While his appearance was average, his demeanor and sheer presence made him appear more charming than his face would suggest, easily matching the radiance of his partner.

Truthfully speaking, the two appeared like a match made in heaven as they held each other’s hands with love and care.

A Perfect couple that became the envy of everyone who watched them.

Just like the two people standing at a distance, on the balcony of the Royal Palace.

Yin Haoran fumed with rage and palpable fear as he watched the man who had once destroyed his life in a different time stare lovingly at his sister as their procession headed for the palace.

He hated this arrangement more than anyone and was secretly behind the schemes of many a rebellious noble who opposed this marriage in the past few months, trying to stop that monster from ever getting involved with his family.

Unfortunately, his sister’s ruthless nature, which he always admired, turned on him and directly annihilated anyone who stood in the way of this marriage, along with Aunt Yao, making all his schemes fall flat.

Thankfully, he always knew how to conceal his actions, distancing himself from all the plans so that he would not be caught in the crossfire. If it were not for that, he knew better than anyone that his sister would have killed him as well.

The truth hurt more than any lie or betrayal. And the truth was that Yin Haoran never really had a good relationship with his siblings growing up, thanks to the monster that they called a mother.

By the time they had mended their relationship in the far future, it was already too late since the Demon had started his schemes and plunged their empire into chaos, subsequently resulting in the rebellion of the commoners and the death of his sister, leaving him as the sole survivor of the Yin family.

Tragically, he was the only one who remembered the close relationship that they would gradually develop in the future, making it so that the care he felt for his family was not reciprocated by either his sister or his Aunt.

“….We need to find a way to get rid of him. We can’t allow him to gain control of the empire. I don’t know what schemes he is playing this time, but I will not allow him to harm my sister. Never again.”

“….I don’t think he is making any plans, Haoran. Look at him.”

Mo Qingyin’s self-deprecating voice rang out in the prince’s ears as he turned to his lover, watching the pain and self-blame in her eyes.

“He looks happy. Truly happy. I have never seen him like that, ever.”

Yin Haoran hugged his lover and continued to glare at the man who is soon going to be his brother-in-law, one whom he will never acknowledge.

However, Mo Qingyin continued to feel despair and blamed herself as she watched her former disciple look so happy.

She had always thought that it was in his nature to become a monster, to suppress others with his power, and to rule over them with his power.

It was why she could never bring herself to reciprocate his genuine feelings for her in the decades they had spent travelling the world, not to mention the taboo of forming such a relationship between a master and a disciple.

However, watching him now, she could not help but wonder if she was the problem.

Was she the one who was the root of all his troubles?

Was she the one who caused everything to go wrong?

Was her presence the reason why he became the monster that her lover had told her about after her death?

Had she caused him pain and made him into the Heavenly Demon due to some kind of ignorant actions on her part?

Such thoughts ran in her mind, making her spiral downwards with depression and what-ifs.

It was only the presence of her lover by her side that allowed her to push back the devastating blow to her mind that she had received as she read through the reports on Huxing Xiang of this timeline, and seeing what kind of life he led here.

A peaceful and tranquil life of a hermit, hiding away in some remote village and making money through his artifacts.

A life where he led his day-to-day life with a carefree attitude, having a pet cat, an adopted daughter, and even a disciple of his own whom he guided in the ways of Formations.

The two lovers held each other and stared at the Royal couple as their procession approached the castle, each holding their own thoughts and uncertainties for the future.

Yin Haoran would not allow the demon to destroy his life ever again, yet he cannot go against his sister either. This meant that, for now, he had no choice but to stay back and watch everything unfold. However, he would not leave everything to chance.

He will need to get in touch with his contacts and allies and start making plans against Huxing Xiang, preparations for the eventuality where he reveals his true colors and loses the protection from his sister.

Mo Qingyin wished to stay as far away from her former disciple as possible and observe the life he wished to lead at this time. Trying to see if she really was one of the reasons why he became a monster in her world, and did what he did.

She wished for nothing more than happiness for her disciple and herself, knowing that it would be better for both of them to never see each other. But she also felt like it would be her responsibility to make sure his life is not ruined again if she really was the reason behind his actions in her time.

And so, the two regressors with differing plans watched the procession, not knowing that all of their planning would be thrown out the window in a relatively short time, thanks to the sheer unpredictability of Da Wei’s actions.
