I am the Main Character? No Thanks!: Prologue (Volume 3)

“General! The enemy is advancing from the East!”

Former Captain Zhou, now General Zhou of the Yin Long Empire’s army, looked towards one of his subordinates who shouted out those words within the chaotic battlefield.

The flashes of blue light across the battlefield indicated that the shielding artifacts that were given to their army by their new Emperor had worked as intended and kept their casualties extremely low compared to their enemy.

As expected of the man that was known as ‘The Enigma’

Turning towards the direction where his subordinate had pointed, General Zhou found a relatively large group of cultivators heading straight towards his army. Their clothes and their similar style of techniques indicated that they all belonged to one sect.

Instantly, General Zhou acted as he had become used to in the past year since the war began in earnest.

“Deploy the suppressing formation! Go!”

Instantly, his trained army turned the battlefield into an even more chaotic mess. However, this chaos was nothing more than a camouflage since this was what his Emperor called ‘Organized Chaos’.

General Zhou remained at his position, waiting for the approaching group of cultivators until they arrived within his trap.

“Now!”

The result was immediate as a large part of the Yin Long army suddenly arranged themselves into a large-scale formation and activated an artifact that they carried with them.

The moment the formation activated, a large barrier formed around the cultivators from the Baihu Empire, which isolated them inside while also removing all Qi from within it, turning the cultivators into stronger-than-average mortals.

“Deploy the killing formation!”

With those words, General Zhou and his men activated the secondary function of their artifact, which flooded the inside of the barrier with something that their Emperor called Cyanide, giving the enemy forces a quick death under the horrified eyes of the Baihu Empire’s army.

However, that horror was quickly replaced by caution as the Baihu Empire’s forces quickly reorganized and started to retreat.

During the past year since the war truly began and the armies of both sides started clashing, the Baihu Empire’s forces had gotten used to the bizarre artifacts that the Yin Long Empire always fielded during every clash, making them overestimate their enemy before every battle, yet still end up underestimating them.

To add insult to injury, the Baihu Empire never could make an effective strategy against these artifacts that the Yin Long empire always carried with them since they fielded a different artifact in every battle, making them impossible to predict.

Putting aside the problem of how they were able to mass produce so many artifacts of the sake kind and power in the first place, the Baihu empire was truly baffled by the tactics of the Yin Long Empire’s new Emperor and wanted to see what his brain was made of to come up with such unconventional and shocking thoughts.

As the Baihu Empire’s army retreated towards their side of the border, General Zhou made sure to keep an eye on them since this would not be the first time that the enemy had acted as if they were retreating, only to suddenly ambush them when they were unprepared.

It was only when he was completely sure that the enemy had truly retreated that he let go of his mask and sagged his shoulders a little bit in exhaustion.

One of his subordinates moved towards him, making sure to keep the General out of the eyes of the rest of the army so that they don’t end up seeing his exhausted look.

“General, we have a lot of prisoners this time around. Any new orders from the Emperor on how to deal with them?”

General Zhou shook his head.

“None. I guess we will go with what we always do.”

“Imprison them at the camp and get information out of them in any way possible. Non-violent methods are preferable, but if that fails, well, you know what to do.”

The cold gleam in the general’s eyes made the subordinate nod seriously and move away, allowing the General to move forward and address the army as he usually does after every battle to boost their morale.
