The Monster of Kaon (Transformers Si): The Fall of Cybertron

The events that would eventually lead to the fall of Cybertron, began with what was known as the Massacre of the Rust Sea by the Autobots, and the Great Betrayal by the Decepticons.

It was an event orchestrated by Sentinel Prime and his Council to cause a schism between the Ascenticons who opposed them. Unfortunately for him and everyone else, his scheme worked in a way too perfectly.

The Plan was simple. Pretend to be moved by the naïve ideals of a young Orion Pax, the so-called 'Autobot' movement, and grant him the title of Prime and have him venture into the deeper parts of the building to claim the Matrix from the carcass of Sentinel's predecessor, Nominus Prime.

Of course, what nobody but Sentinel and his council knew was that the Matrix that rests within Nominus Prime was but a lifelike Fake created by Alpha Trion. It has been that way since the days of Nova Prime, a fact hidden by the council and the Primes before Sentinel to stop the people from discrediting the line of Primes for being fakes.

This was one of the reasons why Sentinel was able to make the ruthless decision to rig the fake matrix to blow the moment Orion claimed it. What nobody expected was a path to literally open up below the building and throw the young Orion directly to the core of Cybertron, to Primus himself.

But Sentinel was nothing if not adaptive. He took advantage of this new development and had his security forces capture Maximus and Megatronus, accusing them of killing a Prime. At the same time, he had his spies and accomplices begin the bombing of main cities and the Ascenticon base across Cybertron.

His purpose was twofold. To destroy the ever-increasing forces of the Ascenticon and to capture the few Outliers that took refuge with the Ascenticons.

Sentinel may despite the Outliers but he also sees the value in them, just like how he captured that youngling Windcharger who had the power of electromagnetism. The weapon that was created from his spark, the Polarity Gauntlet, had proven very useful in capturing other outliers and turning them into weapons that he could use. It is really a shame that all of those experimental weapons were stolen when someone broke into his research division and stole them along with destroying his facility.

Unfortunately for Sentinel, his plan went awry when Maximus suddenly started to glow before disappearing into thin air, causing Megatronus to think that Sentinel had killed him.

The Gladiator, driven by sheer rage and despair, tore apart the army of M.T.O. like they were made of paper, prompting the Council and the Prime to run for their lives.

Then, things became worse.

Some idiot among the many spies that Sentinel had planted among the Ascenticons called their group 'Decepticons' while carrying out their task of bombing and slaughtering some of the frontier settlements, a name that Megatronus, now calling himself Megatron, took as the new name of their organization.

Decepticons, those who were the subject of Deception at the hands of the Council and the lineage of Primes.

The subsequent century was a chaotic time when Sentinel's plan came to fruition.

When Orion Pax, now Optimus Prime, returned shortly after his trip to the core, he found his friends to be unrecognizable.

Megatronus had let his rage control him, Shockwave had isolated himself in his laboratory, trying to deal with his grief and regrets, while Soundwave silenced himself with a vow to never speak until he saw Maximus's vision for Cybertron come to fruition.

In a similar way, the rest of the Ascenticons, now Decepticons, were dealing with similar cases of grief at the loss of many of their loved ones during the Great Betrayal.

But everyone was united in a single goal, find the members of the Council and Sentinel, who had disappeared into the Underworld of Cybertron, and bring them to justice for killing Maximus.

For over a Century, the Decepticons did not give up once and finally hunted down Sentinel Prime along with his council, being imprisoned by an unaffiliated hive of Insecticons.

Then, the schism happened.

Optimus and nearly half of the Decepticons who still retained control of their emotions, wanted a public trial to be conducted for the Council and have them be punished according to the laws.

But Megatron and the rest of the Decepticons, who were far too gone in their emotions of loss, wanted something else entirely.

Despite Optimus's pleas towards his dear friend, Megatron ignored him and conducted a public execution without any trial for the members of the Council.

For Sentinel, he had a special fate in mind.

He threw Sentinel into a massive callosum and publicly broadcasted the live feed of the former Prime being torn apart by a pack of Steeljaws. It was only when Sentinel was barely alive that Megatron called back the Steeljaws and shoved a single Scraplet into his mouth, watching with dark glee as the fake prime screamed in pain as his body was being devoured from the inside, slowly, painfully, until his spark was finally extinguished by the vermin.

Much to the horror of everyone watching, the Decepticons who were consumed by their emotions cheered at this display of violence and cruelty, causing a great rift to form within the organization.

A rift that would turn into outright war when Optimus wanted to establish a new council which would be made up of people chosen by the Cybertronians while Megatron, no longer capable of trusting anyone but himself to lead Cybertron into a better future, wanted to establish a Monarchy with himself as the ruler, genuinely believing that it was what Maximus, the bot that Megatron saw as his Sire, would want.

The War for Cybertron was waged for thousands of years as those in the Decepticons who had not succumbed to their desire for revenge abandoned the group and formed a new organization with Optimus as the leader.

This was the origin of the Autobots.

At first, the forces of both organizations were somewhat equal, resulting in stalemate after stalemate, causing no small amount of frustration within Megatron who hoped to swiftly subdue his former friends and imprison them within his base until he would establish his Monarchy. Then, he would convince the Autobots to join a peaceful Cybertron, free of oppression. Megatron was confident in this strategy, especially since he had inherited Maximus's ability to convince people.

However, due to the stalemates, Megatron was slowly starting to think that this plan was no longer viable.

Then, Shockwave approached him with a suggestion that would eternally brand the Decepticons as hypocrites.

Shockwave had performed Shadowplay on himself in hopes of getting rid of his feelings of grief and loathing, but he was only partially successful and still retained some of his emotions while losing all of his morality.

This led to him suggesting that the Decepticons utilize the plans for the M.T.O. created by Sentinel and modify them to better suit their needs.

Thus, the disposable Decepticon troops, the Vehicons, were born.

This resulted in near overwhelming victory after victory for Decepticons while the number of Autobots started to dwindle.

With no choice left, Autobots copied their enemies and started producing the MTO as well.

This was how the war progressed, one hypocrisy after another, committed by both sides as that war raged on, until finally, the war came to a head with the fall of Cybertron.

Corrupted by the influence of an artificial Dark Energon that was once created by Sentinel Prime, Megatron corrupted Primus himself. At this point, he was no longer driven by the ideals of his Sire, but by sheer spite and rage against the Autobots and the lineage of Primes that had taken so much from him.

This was the point of no return that finally made Optimus see Megatronus as Megatron the Destroyer, and initiate a planet-wide evacuation of Autobot forces.

It was during this time that Shockwave found the location of Vector Sigma and the last of the original thirteen, Alpha Trion, hidden within it, prompting the Prime to eject all the relics, which included the stolen experimental weapons of Sentinel's design and a single Elite Guard trainee, towards a distant backwater planet called Earth.

And so, as the Planet gave birth to the last generation of true Cybertronians before shutting down, most of the Autobots left the planet aboard a refitted Cargo Freighter, called the Ark, followed by Megatron himself aboard an Alt-mode locked Titan, Trypticon, now called as the Nemesis.

And so, the ancient war of Cybertron followed them to the stars.
