The Maniac of DxD (Highschool dxd insert/ semi-crack): Chapter 10

Baraquiel watched with hidden surprise as Ren easily overwhelmed his target, a four-winged Fallen Angel, equivalent to an upper High-Class being in power.

It was no surprise that he had attained a great level of progress in Touki since he had always been dedicated to learning this power even when they were in the Himejima clan.

What surprised the Fallen Angel was his other sets of powers that he seems to use on pure instinct and doesn’t even know about them.

The first surprise is his use of Senjutsu.

While it only to the extent of creating crude illusions that all the Ultimate-class beings, and even some High-Class beings, can easily identify at a glance, it was still astonishing that Ren had managed to learn Senjutsu on his own without any teacher.

The next power that surprised Baraquiel was how he seemed to have unlimited stamina and absurdly high amounts of Touki, something that should not be possible for a teenage human to have.

While Ren fought the Stray Fallen that had stolen the prototype artificial sacred gear that Azazel made recently based on one of the Vritra gears, Baraquiel subtly used his own powers to enhance his senses and try to identify the source of this anomaly.

To his surprise, he found the source to be some kind of a blessing. A blessing originating form some kind of a divine creature.

It was definitely not from a god since this blessing’s strength was nowhere near as high as something that even the weakest and smallest of blessings that any god would give. This meant that it was a being of lesser divinity, in the same class as the Valkyries, the Angels, The nature spirits, and other such beings.

Given the rumors that the Fae in Europe had directly retreated into their own realm, cutting off all contact from the outside world except for maintaining a few connections with the Pendragons and the Royal Family, shortly after Ren was imprisoned by the Police in London, Baraquiel guessed that it must have been a Great Fairy that blessed Ren with this boon.

As Baraquiel watched Ren systematically demolish the Rogue Fallen, he could not help but feel proud.

No matter what the circumstances, there is no denying the fact that Baraquiel had come to see Ren as a surrogate son and a part of his family. It was why he instinctively trusted Ren with his precious daughter’s safety when his emotions were in turmoil and were not all there in terms of sanity.

And just like most times, his instincts proved to be correct as Ren helped his daughter escape her persuaders from the clan. He later learned that Ren had also taken the liberty to bury his wife in the same gravesite as her parents, something that Baraquiel was eternally grateful to Ren.

Later on, when he used the resources of the Grigori to keep track of his daughter and negotiate with the Crimson Satan to take in his precious daughter to keep her safe, he learned that Ren had also been using his own modest connections and abilities to keep Akeno safe.

He used his connections to distract the Himejima clan every time they came close to discovering Akeno’s location. When those connections failed, he would expose his own general location to the clan, making them shift to pursuing him since he was the most wanted person by the Himejima clan for the theft of a huge chunk of their money.

Sometimes, Ren personally intervened and killed the pursuing teams that would come close to discovering Akeno but he never allowed himself to be spotted by the girl. For what reason? Baraquiel did not know, but he was still thankful for how Ren looked after his little girl.

It was only when the deal with Sirzechs Lucifer went through on Baraquiel’s end and Akeno was taken in by the young Gremory heiress who thought it was all a coincidence and news spread out about this new addition to Rias Gremory’s peerage, did Ren slowly pulled back from monitoring the situation.

Not like he had much of a choice since Akeno did not leave the Underworld after she joined Rias’s peerage and Ren’s connections in the Underworld were completely severed after that incident where he killed two minor noble families who had kidnapped a relatively high-ranked Vampire and tried to forcefully convert her into a Devil.

Shaking his head to get rid of those amusing thoughts, Baraquiel focused back on the task at had, to grade Ren on his performance.

By the time Baraquiel had gathered his thoughts, Ren was already done dealing with the Fallen and was in the process of retrieving the stolen Artificial Sacred Gear that took the form of a black sphere with countless Norse runes and Latin spells.

“So? What do you think? Old man.”

“I think you definitely pass on both the power and strategy requirements. I see no issue in assigning you the rank of an Independent Agent, the second highest rank attainable without directly joining the Grigori.”

Ren shrugged his shoulders at those words.

“Good enough for me. I am only interested in accessing all the manuals about Touki that Grigori has in their database.”

Baraquiel chuckled as he was reminded of the time when Ren used to single-mindedly focus on developing Touki back in the Himejima compound with Akeno serving as his Training partner and weight equipment, much to her chagrin since she did not like the implications of her weight being compared to training equipment.

Even as a girl, Akeno was much more mature than children her age, something that Baraquiel always attributed to the environment where she grew up despite he and his wife trying their best to shield her from all the bad things in the world.

With a snap of his finger, Baraquiel transported them to the local safe house of the Grigori and took out a stack of papers that made Ren pale.

“Now, all that is left is to sign this paperwork and you will be officially registered.”

“What the fuck!? Why are you people still using physical papers in this day and age? Why not use a digital method?”

“Azazel said the same thing, but I like doing things the old-fashioned way and since I am the second in command and sometimes have greater authority than Azazel in such things, we still use this method.”

Suddenly, Baraquiel’s face twisted into a sinister expression.

“Besides, physical paperwork is an excellent deterrent and distraction to keep Azazel from his experiments which may or may not result in an explosion that would directly render our species extinct.”

“….And they say I am insane.”

Once again, Baraquiel chuckled at Ren’s words and waited patiently as the teenager seethed with rage but still complied and cleanly filled out the paperwork in front of him.

Baraqiel could not wait for the time when Ren was ready to start high school in another year.

If his guess was correct and his plans panned out as he intended, he might be able to pull some strings and have both of the only remaining precious people in his life placed in the same place.

With such thoughts in his mind, Baraquiel silently leaned back into his seat, dreaming of a future where his Daughter would finally be willing to talk to him and they would once again be a family like they used to be.

My favorite type of insane(ish) mc is the one who ignores or bulldozes right through typical anime tropes like being afraid of the student council or whatever slice of life tropes usually happen
