The Maniac of DxD (Highschool dxd insert/ semi-crack): Chapter 3

Turns out, I was wrong in thinking that all this talk about Chakra, Ki, touki, and spiritual energy was useless and that all of them are the same kind of energy.

I learned that the hard way when I ran into a rogue Yoikai.

Let me explain what a Youkai is.

They are a furry’s dreams turned nightmare.

Basically, any creature that does not fall into a singular category, like humans, demons, gods, spirits, angels, or other categories with a similar body profile and has access to spiritual power and demonic Ki is considered youkai.

I consider it a personal fuck you directed towards me since the Western world doesn’t have to deal with their nonsense and identity crisis since, apparently, the Indians over on the American continent and their gods keep their version of the youkai on a tight leash compared to what goes on in the Eastern countries.

Now, why am dumping so much on an entire species? Because a fucking rogue Nue nearly took me off the Japanese census before those useless people of the Himejima clan slayed it.

Make no mistake, they did not do it for me. For all they cared, they could have easily waited until the Nue turned me into past tense before taking any action.

The only reason they ‘saved’ me is because of their pride and the loss of prestige the clan would suffer if they allowed a child from the branch family to die on their property. Even if said child was not the heir to his branch.

Right, before I forget, I am no longer the heir to the Izayoi clan since I have failed to awaken my clan’s magic, spiritual power, or whatever they want to call it.

This leads me back to the major oversight on my part regarding the rules of this strange world.

From what I managed to learn after my newfound freedom and lack of responsibilities as an heir, the five clans and their various branches specialize in one of the five elements of what they call the elemental cycle.

Simply put, they appropriated the Wuxing cycle in Chinese mythology and made it their own. Or maybe it was the other way around. I don’t care which way it goes. The only thing that matters to me is that I can’t spam fireballs like I wanted to for so long.

How criminal.

Where was I? right, the clans. So, the five clans are each specialized in one elemental spiritual power that naturally awakens in them thanks to the guardian beasts that they house within their household.

The Nakiri family are considered the leaders of the five clans and have powers over the Earth with their guardian beast being the Yellow Dragon, also known as Huanglong. The next in line is the Himejima clan with the power of fire and the guardian beast being the Vermillion Bird, also called Zhuque. Then comes the Kushihashi with wood powers and their beast being the Azure Dragon, also called Qinglong, the Shinra clan with the power of metal and the White Tiger, also known as Baihu, and finally, the Doumon clan with the powers of water and their guardian beast being the Black Tortoise, also known as Xuanwu.

See where my allegations of cultural appropriation come from yet? These guys swapped the places of Wood and Earth in the Wuxing Cycle and called it their own. They didn’t even bother to change the beasts associated with the elements of their original names.

Now, why is all this important? Well, since these powers manifest naturally in the majority of the clan members and their branches, anyone who could not manifest these powers by the age of eight or nine was considered useless and was shunned by the adults, a behavior that the kids also picked up on.

In my case, this meant that my lack of ability to use fire, much to my chagrin, led to me being removed as the heir to the Izayoi clan and being treated like dirt by everyone, including my father.

Not like it bothered me all that much. My reputation for insanity kept the would-be bullies well at a distance while the adults couldn’t care less about me which was perfect for me.

This leads straight to where I am going from here.

Turns out, despite the clans being man-children and blocking people from learning any other method of power aside from spiritual power, there are still records of other types of powers in the world that people like me could learn to harness to become powerful.

I am truly thankful to the past me for using his status to break into the libraries and learn everything he could about these powers due to my endless curiosity.

Especially since it is coming in really handy right now.

I grunted as I continued doing push-ups on the hard ground with Akeno on my back. The girl acts as both my training equipment and my caretaker since she is diligently wiping the sweat off my brows.

Silly, but nice girl. How cute.

Ever since I was removed as the heir of the Izayoi clan she and her parents have been weirdly clingy towards me, especially Akeno who always glared at other children whenever we were together for some reason while Shuri-san kept the adults at bay.

As I said, weird but kind people.

Now, why was I, a nine-year-old, working out with such intensity that could potentially have devastating consequences for my body in the future and possibly turn me into a permanent midget?

Because of the gains of course!!

That, and for Touki.

Out of everything I read in the library, the only form of power that the current me can gain through my own efforts without relying on any external factors is Senjutsu and Touki.

Now, before anyone gets the idea of me emulating a certain orange-wearing ninja, let me make things clear. This is not the Naruto world and the Senjutsu I am talking about is not the busted cheat code from that world.

Senjutsu in this world is the art of manipulating Ki, or lifeforce, of the nature around the user. While it might sound similar to the other one, the difference is that this version is not as busted as the one from Naruto. In exchange, it has versatility as its selling point.

A Walmart version of Senjutsu, if you will. Something that I am definitely not interested in since I don’t like the fact that there are multiple pages of legitimate warnings associated with the art within the books.

This leaves the other option, Touki.

If Senjutsu is the discount version of the art from Naruto, then Touki is the discount version of Ki from Dragon Ball, enough said.

And just like with the Ki in that world, physical harm, and training is the best way to unlock Touki. Hence my current training. As far as my physical health is concerned, despite not awakening my powers as an Izayoi clan member, my physique is still something much superior to ordinary humans, enough to consider this kind of exercise acceptable.

I used to hate people who are born with all the luck in the world. Now that I am one of such people, I can’t help but feel the opposite.

Yeah, I am definitely going to Zenkai the shit out of this body.

Death beams, flight, and Energy balls, here I come.
