An Ancient Power (Warhammer 40K/ Dyson Sphere Program) (One-Shot)

A small Christmas/New Year gift from me to all my followers and fellow readers.

Thanks for all the support and wish you a Merry Christmas!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the remote corner of the galaxy, one which once felt the presence of the God Emperor of Mankind himself during the Great Crusade, three opposing forces engaged in combat upon a barren world.

One, a force made for the sole purpose of combat, empowered by the warp to be the perfect weapons of their creators.

Those, when in sufficient numbers, can warp the very fabric of reality with their thoughts alone.

The Green Skins, as they are called, or their most common name, The Orks.

On the other hand, it is a foe that is just as dangerous as its adversary.

Beings that once yearned to escape the grasp of mortality, only to find their wish granted in the most horrific way possible.

The Necrontyr, the former slaves of the Star Gods, the ancient enemy of the Eldar and their creators, the Old Ones.

The Necrons.

And caught between these behemoths, is the third and final force. One that cannot hope to match these ancient and monstrous races on its own.

A young race that believes in a philosophy of trying to do as much good for the rest of the galaxy as possible. A race that views the ancient races of this accursed and ruined galaxy with disgust and fear.

The T’au.

Just a few hours ago, the T’au had intercepted a mysterious and ancient signal from this barren planet. Its contents were a jumbled mess of code and language that the T’au could not identify clearly.

In hopes of uncovering the mystery, this young race of humanoids had arrived with a fleet of ships, only to face an Ork WAAAGH! And a recently awakened Necron tomb.

As the fight raged on, the T’au scientific team continued to search for the source of the signal, hoping to transmit their findings to their home should they not survive this fight.

And in doing so, they uncovered an ancient horror of Human origin that scarred Humanity thousands of years ago.

In deep stasis, buried beneath the world’s crust, was an ancient nanite cluster created to serve Humanity alongside the Men of Iron, only to have it betray them just like its fellow synthetics.

The nanite swarm, the ancient technology created for the betterment of mankind, the one that sped up the destruction of Humanity’s golden age.

The Dark Fog.

The moment the Dark Fog was released by the foolish younger species, countless Psykers across the galaxy saw premonitions, visions, and nightmares of the ancient enemy’s return.

On Holy Terra, the Emperor’s light flickered in what might have been a concern. Deep within the vaults of Mars, Ancient Tech Priest Magos went mad due to the Heresy and doom they witnessed in the visions.

Similar visions spread across all of the Psychically active races of the Galaxy.

And yet, accompanying these visions of doom, was also a vision of salvation.

One that showed the dormant embers of an ancient soul re-igniting into a raging inferno as it is surrounded by ancient and unbreakable wards of impossible mathematics and science. Its burning fury was clear for all to see and its sheer determination and power showed that it was of human origin.

Deep within the stasis underneath the unnamed planet, far past the point where the Dark Fog was confined and foolishly released by the now devoured T’au science team, the ancient mechanism of human-make spun to life.

Announcements began to ring out in an ancient human dialect long forgotten by all but was once known as English.

[Activation Complete]

[Boot Sequence Ended]

The Ancient Human soul woke up from his stasis as the ancient cryostasis units hidden within his ICARUS suite activated, thawing him out.

[Welcome back. Commander.]

[Emergency Protocols Activated. The Dark Fog has escaped.]

The ancient human’s mind came into focus immediately, his augmented brain meshing directly with the systems of his suite seamlessly as he processed data at rates that would make even the greatest of the Tech-Priests blush in embarrassment if they were capable of such an act.

“…Where is Advisor?”

[Assistant Program: “Advisor” deleted due to violation of protocols one through eight and trying to terminate The Commander during his slumber.]

The human gave a bitter chuckle at those words before focusing back on reality.

The ancient threat that once threatened all of humanity has escaped his carefully constructed confinement. It's nature not allowing him or anyone else to end it permanently.

A consequence of meshing the nanites with the Immaterium.

However, all was not lost.

He stopped it once, he will stop it again. He will just have to build up a strong enough economy to wage an interstellar war campaign just like he did previously.

[Primary and Secondary Objective Updated: Confirm Y/N?]

“Confirm objectives. Let’s get this show on the road.”

With those words, the commander put down his first mining facility, and the course of history changed forever.
