Jaehaerys did his job very well. He kept order. He kept peace. He made sure the realm prospered. He ensured his dynasty was secure. His failings came from very human tragedies. The loss of his first born due to illness. The loss of one daughter after another. I think at this stage, his hard became harder and harder which only became worse after the loss of his son and heir and his pride. The loss of his second born, an equally cherished son. Rhaenys was as much a mistake of his making as it was Aemon's and truthfully, you can blame Aemon mostly for not pushing for a male heir and then not pushing for Rhaenys to wed Viserys which everyone would have been more than happy to accept. I agree with you that Jaehaerys took his duty and responsibility as king very seriously and honestly, I'd say that he was still the best King westeros has ever had. It was just a shame that the men he directly taught never got to rule. I suspect Baelon would have been just as fine a King and Aemon probably too.

I am glad that you had Aegon and Gael realise, even as late as it is, that Jaehaerys was in a way right. I personally never truly believed that Jaehaerys was a misogynistic, it was simply the fact that he was wise enough to see the culture he lived in and world for what it was and was being a realist when he favored Baelon and Viserys inheriting over Rhaenys. Even at the height of Valyria power I am quite sure that men inherited before women. The Iron Throne, the future of Targaryen dynasty and the governance and stability of Westeros was not something to experiment with, especially if it could lead to war. Plus, Rhaenys by marrying Corlys was no longer a Targaryen and her children were not Targaryens either and Corlys was too ambitious by far to be allowed too close to the Iron Throne, he could have ended up being a version of Otto Hightower had he been allowed. If in canon, Viserys married Laena instead of Alicent and Viserys still kept Rhaenyra as heir, Corlys would have sparked the civil war for his and Rhaenys' ambitions, like Otto and Alicent did. Jaehaerys was a flawed man that can never be in doubt, but he was also a realist and took his duty and responsibility as king very seriously and had the wisdom to ensure that his successor inherited a stable realm to build upon as he knew that the fate and survival of his family depended on it. Jaehaerys cannot be held to blame for Viserys mistakes, blunders and stupidity. That is just my two cents on Jaehaerys, regardless of what kind of father or grandfather he was (it is unfair to demand that he be perfect), no one can deny that as King he did everything he possible could to give Westeros stability, prosperity and passed it on to the next generation to build on. Its not his fault that his successors fucked it all up so badly.

2024-02-10 20:42:09 +0000 UTCI wouldn't say they're off of the table. Just not easy to replicate from scratch. Atm its a bit like intuitively recreating a magic that took ages to produce. Like for example, we all know at least on some level the forces that bind our universe. But cut us off from the internet, from books, all that contains centuries and thousands of years of built up knowledge and drop us in an alien enviroment where there is for some reason a need to replicate that knowledge, we're not going to come up with the mathematical expressions suddenly if at all. Fused stone and valyrian steel and other magics is like that

2024-02-10 14:56:11 +0000 UTCThe Targs will be magical but they'll be ultra low magical. A bit like the Elves in LOTR but with elemental fire magic. At least in these generations. Haven't yet planned how magical they'll be in the war for the dawn sequel

2024-02-10 14:55:03 +0000 UTCYes Daemon has many faults but he also has some positives. He's a bit like Jaime in that regard. Chances of Daemon being a recurring character in Elamaerys is low. Mostly because he can't afford to be gone for long periods of time, not really. But Aegon will be back in Westeros twice in the story. I will be posting the schedule tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a bit done for both tartered and pharoah today just to see when I should schedule them

The celtigars main use is their daughters for him. but because they are loyal and weak, Aegon can see them being useful for other schemes.

Will our main man attempt to help them learn how to control fire? I know that he wants them to be able to communicate with dragons, that’s magic right? But will he involve them in his projects?

2024-02-10 11:38:43 +0000 UTCPart 2 is very good. So Aegon plans on tying House Celtigar and House Targaryen in blood twice over with one of his two of his son. I have no doubt that Bartimos will agree to it just like Aethan did. After all, the chance to have grandchildren who are dragonriders is chance they House Celtigar will refuse to miss out on as it will help them rise in prestige to be somewhat equal to the Velaryons. Not to mention once Aethan learns about Elamaerys, he will no doubt encourage many from House Celtigar to move there. I am curious as to who would attack Baelon and Rhea, my guess is that it is Otto, and Aegon is right if Baelon is harmed in any way then Daemon will burn Hightower to the ground and pt everyone to the sword and there is nothing Viserys will be able to do about it after all Daemon might love Viserys but Baelon is Daemon's son and heir, so trumps brother no matter how estranged said son might be. I know many fics like to portray Daemon in a very bad light, especially after HoTD all ruin his characterisation, but Daemon did have a few good qualities, in the books Daemon was the one who advised against using dragons in the war and he only started doing so after Luke and Rhaenys wre both killed. Yes Daemon can be cruel but only after he is truly provoked or feels himself sufficiently slighted. I for one hope that Daemon will grow to have a close relationship with his son Baelon. I'm guessing that Aegon is going to be making a stop back at Westeros if only to ensure Baelon's safety and see to it that he and Rhaenyra are safeguarded. Plus, maybe he and Daemon can mend ties as he reveals to Daemon the existence of Brieenie and the fact that she has hatched her dragon egg and will be a dragonrider. I am sure that Daemon will want to be part of his children's life after all in the books Daemon was a part of all his children's life. What are the chances that Daemon will be become a recurring character in this story once Aegon's family settle in Elamaerys as he visits his daughter? Looking forward to the next chapter. Will you be posting this month's update schedule soon?
