CH65 Part 2, End of Arc 2

There's a lot of topics discussed in this chapter...leading to things that casts a darker shadow of the coming arc, along with better understanding of motivations and so on.
It's been a blast writing Arc 2 and I hope that it ended on a note is meets your expectation or better.

Oh wow, is anyone familiar enough with Halo lore to read into that last section? I know that in canon she is pretty much responsible for grooming humanity and sending them after the mantle. So what's the deal with this bet? ... As I wrote that, I've come up with a theory. The Librarian was a Forerunner who's species basically annihilated the ancient humans, Moira's people. But she was also responsible for setting the circumstances that allowed (non-magical) humanity to be a interstellar power. Could Moira's revenge be to 'back the other horse' so to speak and basically speed run a semi-hostile species (i.e. magicals) through the tech tree and create the circumstances where the magi will massively destabalise or even cripple non-magical society, thereby undoing the Librarian's life work and achieving her revenge? If so that's like a 4d chess move right there, and also really reframes Atticus's actions. Because all of a sudden Moira's motivation are not benevolent in the slightest and now the path she has encouraged him to tread, with all the moral pitfalls he's knowingly stepping in, is incredibly suspect. It's not helped by Emily's inclination and desire to destablise the magical world as a way of pushing people towards Ilos as opposed to a more peaceful but less gratuitous approach. This is kind of reflected in Atticus's monologue where he admits he can't even pretend that he's doing this to save the wizarding world anymore, but so he can create an empire with him at the top, showing a perversion of his intentions. I wonder at what point he and Emily will realise the manipulation and if Emily will even care. Shame that the Flamels aren't really willing to call him on his bullshit.

2022-07-27 11:00:16 +0000 UTCWell that's one way to give a Malfoy an inferiority complex. Seriously speaking Malfoy is actually a good choice to bring into the Illos fold. Abraxas will have a fire lit under his ass to help thier goals as only a fool would work against Atticus and Emily especially given what he knows now. Empire who would pass that up? Power for oneself is nothing compared to prosperity for one's family for GENERATIONS, if his descendants are smart it will be a Malfoy who is a Planetary Governor of let's say the Colony of Abraxas ;) But once the Empire is established the Malfoys will become a thorn in their side as they are schemers.
