Bismarck & The Unification of Germany

Patrons,

Thank you for your patience. I'm happy to share the first chapter in the Road to WWI documentary 'Bismarck & The Unification of Germany'. It starts a bit abruptly, as there is an introduction to go before hand that I haven't added yet (definitely not because I'm still unable to write a good one), but hopefully gives you a good taste of the style we're going for.

Obviously, I suspect most of you will know the story here already, but I think it serves as a decent little introduction for the rest of the documentary.

I wanted to release the second episode today as well, looking at Bismarck's diplomatic system. But finding good music has been a bit more of a challenge than I expected, and I really saw no reason to withhold this episode now it's done. Hopefully episode 2 should be up next week at some point.

Please feel free to offer any feedback. I've added subtitles because I wasn't sure if Patreon had a feature for them like YT, but I personally found them slightly distracting when I've watched the video back. I'll still upload videos with them initially I think, as I know it makes it much easier for those of you without English as a first language. If anyone wants though I can re-upload the video tomorrow without them, so do say if they bother you.

Other than that, thank you again massively for your generosity, I can't truly articulate how much of a help it is in buying image licensing rights etc.

Thanks Hayes, really glad you enjoyed it! Yeah that's one of my favourite paintings of the era, definitely will not be the last time it shows up in the documentary.

Great video! I appreciated the concise yet informative summary of the events which led to the Franco-Prussian war. The images that accompany these videos are always top-notch. Specifically, the painting of the French teacher showing Alsace-Lorraine on the map does a great job of foreshadowing WW1. Any deeper dive into European history often requires that sort of background knowledge and your videos deliver it perfectly.

Cheers Snowman, that means a lot! Yes I agree on the subtitles, they seem more obnoxious each time I watch it back. Have found Patreon does have it's own in-built feature that makes them less overbearing, which I think will be easier on the eye for none-native speakers as well.

That was really good. Big fan of the new editing style. It's very snappy and keeps the attention well. I'm not sure The subtitles are necessary but I guess as a native English speaker I'm not really the target audience for them. I always find them more distracting than anything. Can't wait for the next installments
