Great episode. When the jeans ad was first released I thought the controversy was just going to be about "overly sexy jeans ad", which sort of plugs into the idea that young people want less sexiness in movies/tv, and supposedly have less sex overall in their lives*. This reminded me strongly of the Brook Shields/Calvin Klein jeans ad in the early 80's, which I can assure you was incredibly controversial. My best friend's mom really lost her shit over it, but she didn't have Facebook or TikTok to make her thoughts known to the world at large. If you're not familiar with Shields' problematic early movies and modelling career, you should read the first part of her Wikipedia article. Her parent(s) were just incredibly irresponsible in a way that you rarely see in Hollywood these days. *fwiw, I don't believe this; I think that Gen Z just lies less in surveys vs Gen X, lol

2025-08-14 01:48:30 +0000 UTCthe way you talk about right wingers going for things that appear as "neutral" or "don't know where they going to fall" kind of reminds me of how right wingers lost their shit at finding out that Homelander was the bad guy and that The Boys show wasn't supporting him or peak MAGA views bc "the show was punching bost sides", and using corporation greediness and co-opting progressive language as "proof", even tho leftists very much are the first to criticize corporations for trying to co-opt progressive movements/ideologies.
