The plot to ruin the new Superman movie [Ad-free] [Extended]
Added 2025-07-09 07:00:08 +0000 UTCToday we're looking at how fandom got so cultish, through the lens of the Snyder Cut.
When did fandom become so zealous? Today we’re looking back at the release of the “Snyder Cut” and the people who still think that Zack Snyder should make all of the DC movies. Open Mike Eagle joins us to talk about where the world of fandom in entertainment is and why we’re so desperate to root ourselves in pop culture that it can become like a religion.
Our guest is rapper, comedian, podcaster, and streamer Open Mike Eagle. You can find him pretty much everywhere, or check out his collective works at http://mikeeagle.net/.

This episode was insightful in a lot of ways. Open Mike Eagle really does know his stuff. I like that y’all connected this to conspiracy movements and fascism. The Snyder cut and Batman V Superman are some of the worst movies I have ever seen with that kind of budget behind them. I won’t say they are the worst ever made but Snyder has no ability to write characters. It’s all cinematography, slow motion and action shots. I am an anti for Snyder 100 percent. If the movie industry is a zero sum game in terms of budget allocation, any money given to Snyder after Man of Steel is a tragedy. I think about relatively low budget films like Everything Everywhere All at Once and it makes me sad that hundreds of millions of dollars are thrown into making this kind of garbage. Netflix gave him so much money to make a starwars ripoff that I watched because I am a masochist. I just think of the brilliant projects that could have been if not for giving Snyder another blank check. I don’t suggest ever doing wading into this toxicity but facebook is an untapped source of snyderbros. I use facebook purely for their marketplace feature and I have found myself being sucked into these ridiculous communities. Facebook somehow knows that I hate the movies and shows me the dumbest “people” (probably bots) of facebook. It feels like rage bait engagement farming. It really did illustrate to me how facebook is intentionally stirring up divisiveness and anger to keep people engaged on their platform. This relatively harmless example demonstrates how Q-Anon and anti-vax spread on the platform during the pandemic.
