I know it's been a while since this was uploaded but right at the start you have a line: "form over function" when it should be the reverse

Dennis Hornsby

Although, how morbid would it be if it turns out the mines ARE actually alive in some sense and detonating really does hurt/kill them. Definitely seems not impossible in this messed up world. Would also explain why they are ALL at the capital. The Blight may be less a hoarder, and more just enjoying a nice cacophony of pain all around the city gates that just happens to double as army protection.

Umbra_Nex

Would be interesting if it was the mine. Mana is the "building block of all life" so the Skills may be using that to interpret the mana mine as a living thing that he killed by forcing it to explode (especially since they have some amount of will and leeway to make interpretations, and want Rob to succeed). Heck, when it respawns it may be a "new birth". Could be a funny (and ethical) way for Rob to farm max HP... Just traipse through a minefield whenever he is bored and not actively fighting things.

Umbra_Nex

That's possible. And if the system is trying to get him as high-level as it can, which I feel like was implied in 199, then it might be incentivized to interpret the text pretty loosely.

ZizZazZuz

I'm going to put my money on the wall being the "worthwhile opponent" that he killed. The skill does not say that the opponent has to be living or give exp. Just killed.

The 49th Khan

Considering the skills are watching, that makes sense

Jonathan Crandall

Whether or not DR reflects damage depends on degrees of separation from where/when the attack was 'started'. As a general guideline of how the system would interpret it: Person plants a mine one hour ago: Dauntless Reprisal wouldn't reflect damage. Person plants a mine fifteen minutes ago: Wouldn't reflect. One minute ago: Might reflect. Chances go up if the Mine was specifically targeting Rob, and if the person who planted it is watching and waiting to see if he triggers it. Five seconds ago: Highly likely to reflect. Threw the mine straight at Rob's head: Would definitely reflect. This is subject to change, as the system has to be malleable in order to deal with strange edge cases.

Thanks for the catch, fixed it.

I can’t find the most recent character sheet but it would be amusing if dauntless reprisal killed whichever artificer made or set the mine. Would make the ramifications for it staggering.

Hardy Carroll

You probably meant "rank-and-file soldiers", but have "rank-and-soldier soldiers", which I do find amusing. Great chapter!
