2022-06-06 16:42:06 +0000 UTCThe purpose of a monster is to spread fear, in the case of Japanese yokai, they literally live off fear. It's clearly for intimidation purposes, and fear is a very useful tool in battles. If a monster scares you enough to retreat, it's no longer a battle, but a hunt, and monsters like to hunt prey.

Which begs the questions of what are the intentions of the few "human friendly" dwarves now, and how the hell did they find out? Did one of the gods tell them? Do they have scrying or other magic items that tell them whether there are humans or not? Looking forward to this Thursday!

It never made sense to me that skeletons, lacking any kind of voicebox, would be able to shriek or make sounds like that, but it's been a staple for ages. Also, wow, we finally get to meet the dwarves! I hope he gives them a dressing down they deserve, for having technically been greater participants in the wiping out of mankind than the fiends, AND informs them that the humans didn't intend to murder suicide on a mass scale, but were trying to escape, and they, along with the people that disappeared with them, might still be around, in limbo or something.
