I think this was a very clever way to address and frame the talk meyneth and rob still needed to have, while sticking to your ‘no romance focused chapters for a while’ thing, simultaneously giving us a POV I didn’t know how badly I wanted, AND letting us now that we could trust diplomacy to not become evil. Fantastic job.

But in this story there was bulls that grew to the size of a house, unbelievably strong and stubborn. However they were leashed by a thin silver chain. As calves, they couldn't snap that chain and accepted it as irrefutable fact. It never occurs to them to try again as they grow, as it is a simple fact that the chain *can't be broken by them*. I remembered this story while reading this chapter, Diplomacy is a bull that KNOWS he can break the chain, and chooses not to because of everything that the chain represents to him.

2022-01-06 07:51:43 +0000 UTCRob, as stated, is not an idiot. On some level he understands that diplomacy can do everything that was gone over in this chapter. Rob, the guy who a got magic antidepressant skill, and before knowing anything about the world, decided not to use it for fear of it influencing him, is showing an ungodly (and I know he prefers ungodly as a verb) amount of trust to diplomacy. Shows his capacity for empathy with anything that he perceives as sentient. It's also great that it seems to be that empathy and trust that saves him from that AU plotline. It's like diplomacy said, emotion rules all, and it seems the skill itself is no exception

On the other hand, that meant we saw less Meyneth talking relationships with someone, which has by far become some of my favorite content for the absolute hilarity.
