You can never please everyone, so ignore both sides and write what is best for the story. People will come around if you write well, and the payoff is good.

Charles Sperry

This was a great chapter, but while I enjoyed it... Rob reacted differently here. He saw the Blight was going after a group of Elves, and yet "I'm sorry". While it might have fit the scene as is setup Alessia's ambush, and realistically Rob would have died otherwise, it felt out of character. I know this Blight is more intimidating than the first, and Rob can tell how powerful it is, but when it comes down to it, actions speak louder than words and he knew he would die the first time. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Well it might just be that I hate people saying sorry. Though in the end this chapter despite being a literary masterpiece that did things I've never read before, still felt dissapointing...

CMDR Dantae

Sounds like the Blight needs some therapy!

Noah

Rob has a lot of experience coming up with plans and executing them, also skills to speed up thinking, calm down, etc

Catra

He made up a essentially perfect plan on the spot (while being pretty much scared out of his mind) and successfully executed it against a being that he can't really do much to hurt and can move so fast his thoughts can barely keep up with it and can splat him like a insect. "Luck" was absolutely at play there. He should've been dead several times over.

tibbish

Nothing Rob did in this chapter came down to luck. Neither did anything that happened to him come about as a result of luck. He made a plan using the pre-established abilities in his toolbox and executed it.

KamikazePotato

Rob is unbalanced vs people near his level. The Blight isn't like other people and is nowhere near his power rating. Even people like the Seneschal would be weak vs the Blight. And you can only survive so long on luck. Getting "lucky" each time he fights someone uber powerful gets old fast.

tibbish

It's not like the Blight didn't cause substantial damage to Rob. He just has a very unbalanced stat build, giving him more HP than anyone would bother to get. We know the system is a cunning bastard, maybe someone higher up wasn't ready for Rob to die just yet and gave him this opportunity. Given what we are finding out about the gods or whatever it is and how unbalanced basically everything in this world is, Rob barely surviving ridiculously overpowered enemies doesn't feel out of place at all for me.

M

Oh, I assumed it was because of the damage he caused, which still would have been enormous despite the Blight shrugging it off casually. Othere creatures being affected though... even that far away... wouldn't that lead to Blights and other monsters all around the contintent to start migrating towards Rob? Imagine an endless flood of monstrosities surrounding the bubble that protects the city...

M

I wonder if next time Rob tries to do something exceedingly stupid to save someone, if any of the elves will go "nope. we had to *literally carry half your almost-dead-but-not-quite body once already, you're gonna come up with a better plan that isn't suicidal-centered or you're getting some Timeout Time" lmao

thodoris kavouras

Its a mistake to keep throwing Rob against enemies that are hilariously more powerful than him. These fights are getting unbelievable...as in suspension of disbelief can't really be maintained here. The story is still good in other areas but I just roll my eyes and hit the scroll wheel whenever he faces off against some demi-god like being like the Blight now.

tibbish

Welp, that corruption value is going to be a serious problem. But at least as many of them as possible survived. Gotta hand it to Rob's instinct to protect others though.

Trevor Smith

Good idea. Done.

KamikazePotato

You should clarify on your survey what 1 thru 5 represent. 1 being Excellent Idea and 5 being Terrible Idea or the reverse. Right now its slightly confusing.

Ryan

This is an issue I struggle with as I get complaints from both sides no matter how I pace things. If things happen fast, some people think it's too much. On the other hand, when I put in downtime, I get complaints that it's a filler chapter. I've tried to balance things overall, but I've also come to accept that I can't please everyone. If it helps, there's a character-mandated "we need to relax" chapter in the future.

KamikazePotato

Says who? Shits fucked, why should it suddenly deus ex machina unfuck itself?

Catra

O early! Exciting! Thanks for another amazing chapter! Holy shit what a chapter And guess it turns out the barrier only stops blights huh?

Catra

Not sure about anyone else, but for me the pacing of the story is starting to suffer due to a continuous, unrelenting tide of shit piling up on Rob and the other survivors. You can only push the build-up to a story's climax so far, and the climax itself can only go for so long, before you need a reasonable period of falling action. It doesn't feel like there has been anything close to that, just more and more buildup. That isn't sustainable and it eventually gets old.

Jon

So when Rob used Enmity on the Blight in front of him, a Blight infested/created/whatever monster who knows how many miles away was also affected. So it looks like all Blight is somehow connected? Interesting

Nathan Linder

Wow this was a good one. Jonah and the whale scenario?

Benedict Beale

'Tis the serial writing life.
