Diplomacy will know what to say, but because he'll look human, few will stay to listen.

Rande Knight

No it would be Sophont. Even animals can be Sapient, Sapience is just intelligence.

To be fair, algorithm eyes leading to not ~~not piracy~~ seeing, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Way I see it is always to err on the side of caution, under the lens of "if in doubt, don't". And no doubt that's a pretty destructive lens, in restrictions and such.

Arcane Hermit

Yeah, I looked into it too and couldn't find that exception anywhere in amazon's guidelines. Definitely not going to risk it. Appreciate you taking the time to research it on your own free time! That's very kind, and a secondary confirmation is super helpful.

KamikazePotato

I did some reading on it. Apparently you're right and this was always the case. I was just flat out mistaken based off secondhand word of mouth from authors doing it themselves in spite of the inherent risks.

Ziggy

My understanding is while some authors leave their chapters on Patreon, you're not actually *supposed* to. Amazon just can't find it there as easily and patrons don't tend to sell out the people they're supporting. I don't think anyone here would do that, but there's still the chance that Amazon finds the Patreon chapters and dings me for it. Too much risk.

KamikazePotato

I don't really mind myself, but from what I've seen from other authors shifting to KU, you don't have to take the chapters off your patreon. It's possible they've changed policy or you're just copying what you put on RR, but worth mentioning. I'm assuming any backlash will be minimal considering you're giving plenty of warning and making it easy for everyone to access it in other ways up till the 11th.

Ziggy

Heck, who says I'm conscious? For all you know, I'm actually a team of scientists seeing what kind of story they can produce by having twenty howler monkeys repeatedly slam on a keyboard.

KamikazePotato

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm excited about where the story will go from here.

KamikazePotato

Pretty sure you're using "sentient" whilst meaning "sapient". Everything that "feels" is sentient, e.g. animals, while proper "self-awareness" like a human means sapience. Since Diplomacy is self-aware and has his its own thoughts, it is not only sentient but sapient. Therefore, calling it "sentient" is not wrong, but if you are describing what it means to be a "person of similar wisdom as a human", the proper term would be "sapient"

GG

Sadly, there is no logical basis to assume so. For example, you cannot prove to me you are conscious, and neither can I provide proof of my consciousness to you. Even if we meet. But believing so makes for a better time

P enyuk

Hell yeah amazing chapter. And congrats on the book! Can't wait to see where the story goes

Catra

While the issue was small I think an apt comparison to diplomacy being just as much of a person as anyone else would be our modern day social connections via text and/or Voice communications. I'll probably never see the people I interact with, but I never doubt they are people I am talking too.

Doreh

Thanks for elaborating. Makes sense. Consider getting robot hands so they too can churn out 30k words a week :P

Jeff

The long and short of it is that Kindle Unlimited is by far the most successful platform for LitRPG stories. I honestly really don't like having to take down chapters, but this is the best way there is for me to support this endeavor in the long term. And it works out well for my current readers as well, because the more successful the story is, the more time I get to devote to writing it and planning future stories. The Wandering Inn is exceptionally popular and can do basically whatever it wants. Every author wants to be in a position like that, trust me.

KamikazePotato

New patron so I'm not up to speed: why go with Kindle Unlimited instead of a more traditional release system where you don't have to take away early chapters? I think pirateaba struck a good middle ground with The Wandering Inn, for example. In terms of recurring revenue, I would be concerned about losing new readers that might otherwise have signed up for patreon, etc.

Jeff

If that happens I want diplomacy to not know how to walk for like a week since it’ll have no frame of reference for it.

Lictor Magnus

I would hope that Diplomacy being turned into a flesh and body being would divorce it from the System such that it wouldn't have the same level of influence as it has as a skill. There should be all the meatbag issues that come with a physical presence to limit it... but that's my own assumption. Heck knows how things play out.

V

I think that depends on how Rob manages to achieve it. If he uses some type of cloning method, then I could see the diplomacy taking over a body as a consciousness. Or go with the classic Isekai route and reincarnate the skill as a separate soul. All sorts of interesting ideas.

Trevor Smith

I'm fairly sure he'll be Rob's version of a "oops I accidentally made a pseudo-God, but he's on our side so yay?" something.

Craxuan

That's weird - it works for me and my friend I asked to test it. If you want, you can give me an Email and I'll send you the pdf directly.

KamikazePotato

Link says access denied man.

Craxuan

I wonder how that would work. Would real boy diplomacy have an innate high level of diplomacy and always know what to say?
