Why wouldn't he? He's also worried about his party member that had to watch helplessly as the rest of her party was being drained of life. She herself states that she does not have much ammunition to use against her trauma-wise, but Rob does not see this as a reason to downplay her achievement or the fact that she felt helpless. Case in point, she was trying to downplay her own troubles, but that's not good for her health and Rob knows that.

2021-08-03 16:13:29 +0000 UTCIf you don't suffer, you can't feel empathy afterall. Empathy is sharing suffering, so sociopathy is logically next. I have to disagree with Rob, I've been on anti-depressants, and looking back on it, I was basically a completely different person and not in a good way. I'm pretty sure it changed what I defined as "me" for a long tine permanently, and I still haven't come to terms with it... Moving onto more pleasant subjects, I wonder how Earth would respond to Jason getting levels? Would they believe him even if he raised his stats? Woukd they assume it worked like RPGs, or insist he test out their different theories? Or would they tell him to choose himself, and just throw him at the Blight?

2021-08-03 02:06:41 +0000 UTCFun fact about this chapter that no one will notice so I want to point it out: near the end, the prose/narration stops referring to Rob by his name.

2021-08-03 02:05:32 +0000 UTCI just don't think that's what you'd be doing in that situation

2021-08-03 01:33:03 +0000 UTCNah, I think it's more like he's trying to remind himself that he shouldn't compare traumas, cause that is a dangerous mindset to be in. It's easy to say someone had it worse than this person because of that thing being comparatively worse, it's actually very easy to fall into if you don't consciously remind yourself.

2021-08-03 01:28:42 +0000 UTCThe whole "not that trauma is a contest" stuff reads like you're trying to head off angry comments more than actually trying to tell the story. I think maybe there's more navel gazing here than would be realistic for people who are trapped in a dungeon with their whole team neutralized.

2021-08-02 18:58:20 +0000 UTCIt's both cool and horrifying that melancholy resistance ended being exactly like what I thought it would be.

2021-08-02 04:57:13 +0000 UTCGood pacing in the beginning with the "reveal" of how he's going to help them. I only realized he'd have to use the skill shortly before he realizes it himself. Balancing and making a reveal just obvious enough can be pretty difficult. The melancholy resistance mindset scene seems to drag a little too long for me. But I can't really think of a better way to present that scene so that's a minor gripe.
