QUICK couple minute double page spread mini figurative gesture study #5!
The way a woman can be in her own moments, showering, bathing, being with herself, taking care of herself, raw and naturally, herself, is beautiful. We are fully ourselves when we are keeping our own company.
In this couple minute study, I focused on the open shapes of the shadows along the structures of the body, first. I created the rough marks of shadow along frontal bone, zygomatic, chin, hollow of the neck, along the fleshy hint at the spine, tucking under the arm, defining the soft tissue against the thorax, up over the pelvis, marking the indicators around the iliac crest, and down the legs. Then I took a very light pass at the contour of the forms to balance, checked things, THEN found more line weight variation, hair gesture, marks for nose and eyes, and rounding off the buttocks.
Just using the rectangular Carpenter style Generals Pencil in 2B here. Sweet and simple. No need to complicate things. Simple studies can teach us a lot about our process, how much we know, and still need to learn, and as much about reigning it in as letting it loose.
