Yo guys!

we've been told some of you experience major issues like:

First, if you're affected with any of these issues, I am deeply sorry. I am a big fan of Heroes of Might and Magic and I remember when I bought HOMM6 only to discover that game developers didn't manage to make the game work on my combination of hardware. Indeed, the game couldn't run on laptop versions of some nvidia GPUs. So I paid it and... I've never been able to launch the game :/ I know the frustration.

Then, I fear it could be the same kind of issue we're facing here. Indeed, I can fix bugs that are in my code. These ones make the game crash with an error message giving details about what happened. That's what you're invited to report during alpha test periods. However, if the game engine itself is crashing, it has nothing to do with my code, it can be anything: a bug in Game Maker itself, a bug in the video plugin we use, a driver issue, an hardware issue, etc. If you're not familiar with technical issues I'm talking about, let's say it's like handing out a drawing you've made to a blind person - he can't see it but there's not much you can do about it; editing the drawing isn't going to fix his eyes.

Anyway, people facing these issues have been quite vocal, but I have actually no idea if these 5-6 people are the only one concerned or if half of you have problem but didn't told us. I'm going to run a poll in another post for this.

Once launched, if the game window remains indefinely stuck on Loading… and never load, follow this: Close the game. In the game installation folder, there is a file named "options.ini". In this file, you will see the line, CreateTexturesOnDemand=0 Change this to CreateTexturesOnDemand=1 Save. Launch the game, and enjoy.

i have an issue as well with the game crashing on trying to start animations, It doesn't matter which animation it is. Also it looks like it needs to have text which i would be trying to click through too fast. That's when it crashes. if i wait a little longer the animation starts fine.

Folks, I had the first issue as well: for me it was an Nvidia driver issue. A recent driver update broke some things. I would recommend looking up "display driver uninstaller" to totally remove the drivers, then download a fresh driver from Nvidia. That's what worked for me at least, it might work for you as well.

I have either a similar issue or the same one as Apollo, when an animation is preparing to play the game sometimes stops working and crashes. In my experience it feels like it may have something to do with excessive mouse-clicking, but this feeling may just be an illusion as well.

No, if "not enough people complain" than it's a good sign the issue isn't inherent to FDW

Yeah I never brought it up but most of the animations would error my game out and cause it to crash some would play the first time then if I reloaded it would crash the second time around.

Apollo

So if not enough people complain, the hell with it?
