update regarding that tree
Added 2024-11-27 01:06:31 +0000 UTCjust in case anyone else runs into this situation and is anxious about getting a five-digit bill over it: i now have a new quote for $7700 to get rid of the tree. this is much closer to the median price i saw on google and completely reasonable considering it's a pretty big tree, and esp. since they'll let me do the job in two halves. it seems we were right in assuming that the astronomical price we got before was due to it being an "emergency" removal.
in other news, both me and daria hurt our necks this morning? somehow? and have been out of commission all day and probably tomorrow i suspect. so my riff at the end of the last post about "lol maybe i'll have a video out next week" is now deeply unlikely. good luck gamers, merry thanksgiving

2024-11-29 05:36:38 +0000 UTCThis Thanksgiving I am thankful for you, Gravis, and the people who help make your videos. I think I may have learned more from your content than I did from AvE before he lost his mind. While you may have had a rough go of it behind the scenes as of late your work has continued to impress. I wish you and yours continued and increasing success. Cheers, young man.

2024-11-27 17:15:27 +0000 UTCGood news about the tree! Less good about your neck! Argh! π If heat seems to help, those little Thermacare portable/one-use heating pads can be lifesavers! I woke up with a bad neck last week (I have arthritis, apparently, according to the xray), and my wife convinced me to try wearing one, and lo and behold I was able to go to work, and even felt measurably better by the end of the day! Not 100%, but better than I would have been! They make neck shaped/sized ones; I recommend picking up some medical paper tape too, though, in case the stickum doesn't stick to your skin well. π I hope you're feeling much better soon!

2024-11-27 13:35:09 +0000 UTCIβd love to know the breakdown of the costs involved. Curious how they get to those numbers!

2024-11-27 13:29:02 +0000 UTC35k$ is about 1,5 half year worth of average wage in Poland. I think for that price you could fly two lumberjacks from Poland, take them to Disneyland, pay good wage for all that time, fly them back and then take yourself to Disneyland again.

2024-11-27 11:15:02 +0000 UTCBright side, you'll have more wood for more shelves now? I guess? Hope the neck stops being a pain in the... neck soon π

2024-11-27 05:05:51 +0000 UTCI cut down two medium sized Ash trees last year (they had ash bore infestation.) It was no fun but I saved $1500. I still have at least 9 fingers too! :)

2024-11-27 02:57:25 +0000 UTCMy general advice to other people these days is 'If you end up owning property, do not allow trees larger than a station wagon within their full grown height of any structures you'd like to keep. Strike preemptively if circumstance means you start out violating that rule'

2024-11-27 01:46:27 +0000 UTCTrees do get speeeendy. I had a dozen big ones removed this year for about $12k, but more than half of it was just one monster. That was leaning. Towards the house. And was the tree positioned with all the sail area to catch all of the prevailing wind. Towards the house. And it was so big they'd have to take it down with a crane to avoid damaging anything else.

2024-11-27 01:43:42 +0000 UTCWhy are all my fav creators getting tree'd?

2024-11-27 01:22:55 +0000 UTCGuess I can't bitch about paying $700 a tree to have some of the birch removed from my back yard.

2024-11-27 01:21:35 +0000 UTCAh they gave you the ol' "I don't want to do this job" price. I hope this new contractor job goes as smoothly as it can.

2024-11-27 01:17:13 +0000 UTCAs someone who recently had two 80ft+ tall trees taken down and ground up shortly after a hurricane? Yeah thatβs a far more reasonable number, Iβm glad you didnβt get too gouged. The two biggest bastards here cost me $13k for the pair.
