Video: Little Guys Ep 7

In which I disassemble a cop-puter. Not the loveliest subject but the machine has a few interesting qualities. There's one significant correction I have to add before release, which is that the spring mechanism is clearly meant to press the CPU against the heatsink; very odd!

"Where's episode 6?" I decided to reshoot it but I already had a bunch of folders named that way so it'll stay ep 6 even if I release it later.

In case anyone's uncertain what I mean by Motorola being a bunch of bastards, I will not be elaborating. I don't know what their public history is, but I knew someone who worked there and they told me about some pretty dark stuff they'd heard in re military contracts. Can't remember it, didn't wanna talk about it, just left me with a pretty bitter taste regarding this company. Hope the video's fun anyway.

I now desire usb ports that screw in. I don't have a real need for it, but I want to feel like a pro.

Wow, those weird connectors on the back look oddly familiar. I got a NEC PC-98 laptop from e-waste (Japanese, obviously) and it has those style of connectors on the back. I never figured out what they did since I can't find a user manual, but there are no DB-25 or DE-9 connectors at all, so I suspect it's just a breakout cable that can be adapted to serial or parallel. Why, though? I don't really know. Been meaning to play with that machine but the floppy drive is broken and there's no other way of getting data onto it. (Also, PC-98 uses a nonstandard partition format so I can't even just plug the drive into my modern PC with an IDE adapter, it shows up as unformatted when I do that) Speaking of Japanese electronics, I sent you an email about a LS-240 drive I can send your way if you're interested.
