Video: Two Thrifts And A Computer Store

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4HAqGrJFCU

As noted in the video this was just intended as an exercise to test a new camera, but I ended up with enough footage to make a video. I was a little uncertain whether I'd get any weird looks walking into stores with a camera around my neck, though that's probably just a memory of the early 2000s, post-9/11 era; probably, with us being this many years post-vlogging and post-cameraphone, no employee anywhere is going to care about bugging someone over this.

I need to work on my hand-stabilization, since the in-body can't fully keep up with walking, but otherwise I am pretty satisfied with the camera, and the lens is _amazing_. I know it's easier to make ultrawides on MFT but still, f/1.7 is _ridiculous_. Check out that night footage near the end at the uwajimaya - it was _dark out_. The sky was barely perceptibly blue; I didn't even realize until editing that I had let the camera _overexpose_, and it still looked pretty damn good, with minimal noise. Had I adjusted my AV comp it would have been even better. A GH5 is no Red, but it's new to me. I cannot wait to Do Things with this camera.

I probably will upload a Crab Rave Cut later

Loved this episode. I really miss LCM. I go to Re-PC on a bi monthly basis at least to see if they have anything interesting. Got my Server and Quadra 950 there as well as a few other fun things. Always hoping to run into you there. Have you been to the Connections Museum?

Lived in Seattle for 12 years, did the RePC crawl monthly - RePC Seattle I swear to god had stuff that had been the shelf looking for a home the entire time I lived there. It's nice to see they finally turned some inventory, or cleared out all the ancient stuff sitting under the tables. There was a Wang system sitting in the as-is area for at least 3 or 4 years.

Aloha

H*ck, I didn't even realize the Living Computer Museum had closed, and regardless this was not how I was expecting to learn that fact. 😭

Micro Center’s location isn’t the worst, but it would be better if it was in, like, Chelsea or something. It’s not that hard to afford a large retail space in Midtown if you do like Mood Fabrics and make people take an elevator to get to you. It’s only convenience retailers that need sidewalk-facing locations. So idk Micro Center could open a location on, like, the fourth floor of the Siegel-Cooper Building.

Anybody in NYC know if there are any RE•PC-like places near the subway here?
