this is an *unfinished video.* i left out the graphics for the latter 1/3 or so because i just couldn't get myself to work on it.

I made this whole video before my big trip in february and I absolutely hate it. I don't know why but it just seems boring and open ended and aaaaaghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hope you enjoy maybe i'll finish it and release it eventually hope you're havinjg a good year

Windows fax video

I thought this was a really great video as well - it's something I think we all have seen and disregarded - because the idea that we could just... fax from our PC.. free.. was so ridiculous that we didn't even consider it. I certainly remember the Fax printer... and I also remember using free internet services to send faxes all of the time. I worked in I.T. for a decade, plus 3 years at Geek Squad (...sigh....) and never once realized this existed. One of my favorite videos so far.

I thought this was great and had a lot of the same kind of cool unknown quirk vibes of the NES TV Station video. I think a lot of the "mass-market" (bleh) appeal of TechMoan and Alec's videos is that they deal with kind of everyday oddities or unknown knowns - in very much the same vein as "fax" being an option in the window's print dialogue that we have all ignored since Windows 95. The quality of fax and scan is wild to me, and I think that a lot of people would be fascinated by just how good something this banal ended up being. I would love to see more of the faxback/fax on demand videos if and when they come, but no pressure.

It's funny you should mention this because some friends in a retrocomputing chat were just posting pics of faxes they were sending each other last night, and one was Windows Fax & Scan receiving a fax from FAXstf, hahaha. Also thank you for the confirmation that you, too, tuned it right out.

On the point of other systems, I don't believe Apple ever shipped their own fax software, but I know that at least some modem-toting Macs around the turn of the century came with third-party utility FAXstf preinstalled for that purpose http://www.atpm.com/9.06/fax.shtml - this reviewer doesn't seem to like it much but from what I've seen of it it seems fairly comparable to Windows Fax & Scan. And once again, their presence on my old PowerBook still didn't register to me, a nerd, as "this machine can send and receive faxes on its own", despite it being crystal clear that that is the case.
