By the blush... I'm like 99.9% sure that even if he didn't want this outcome, he does now. Also, who's to say they were actually friends, could have just been an acquaintance that he wanted to get rid of... like one of those coworkers that have you go out with them for drinks or something, when all you really want to do is go home and rest, but you go with them because they're technically your boss and rejecting them might negatively effect your job even if they personally seem to think that they're just being your good friend. Then they leave you to cover the tab... that type of 'Friend', you know?
