Okay, friends. We teased that we'd be announcing something huge soon, and here it is. Our next big project will be the...
What is the OSA? Well, it's going to be a curated storefront featuring high quality, 3d printable scans of traditionally sculpted miniatures!
This is a project that we've had on the burner for a few years now. We've been through several models of scanners during that time, none of which were quite up to the task, but thanks to the success of our last Kickstarter campaign, we were able to secure a machine that scans at this scale with a level of quality we were looking for.
We'll be running a Kickstarter campaign in November which will feature designs from five artists/rights holders, including the legendary John Dennett! John sculpted the orc shown in the banner (and the first Demogorgon miniature for Grenadier, which many of you may know from the first season of Stranger Things). The campaign will help secure purchases for our initial collaborators as well as provide the infrastructure we need to get the storefront site up and running.
It's been killing us sitting on this project for so long, but we didn't want to share anything until we knew it was ready to deliver. You patrons are the first to hear about it, but we'll be going live with more info soon.
Because we're working so closely with collaborators, this project isn't something that we'll be able to share in full here, however- we will have our own space on the storefront (for Dutchmogul's traditional sculpts and scratch-built designs), and anyone here who has access to miniatures will get access to anything that belongs to us. In addition to that, we're looking into the possibilities for exclusive store discounts and the like.
We're really excited about what we have on board for the Kickstarter, and the list of collaborators is growing even larger for the eventual store launch (which should go live in December). We'll also be providing scans of miniatures (and toys) with lost licensing, and anything like that will be provided for free (and we'll be sure and post those here as we add them too). Part of what appealed to us about this project was taking the role of "museum curators," and that we're not just creating a storefront for artists to expand their market, but also provide a digital record for all of these fantastic designs and a way to view them and read about their history. On top of that, scanned versions of traditionally sculpted/cast miniatures have some really intriguing implications, such as:
Anyway, we'll have a lot more to show soon, but we wanted to let you know what we've been up to. We can't wait to share more,
- the Ill Gotten Games team
