Okay, gottcha! Yes, that's a clever idea.

Sailing SV Delos

I know that was the reason mate :) hehe

Allan

Actually it seems that when you are screwing in the bolts they are within the zinc and difficult to start and get threaded. You screw it in until the bolt is fully seated and looks to me like the head is hard to get to. My idea was like an extended bolt with an extra head to tighten that you could more easily hold with your fingers especially under water

Sailing SV Delos

Yes, it really is! πŸ™Œ

Sailing SV Delos

We just moved her on Thursday, update coming soon!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Spencer, glad you enjoyed it!

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah, it’s not really too much of a thing here except for us Americans living overseas πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Sailing SV Delos

Yes, I have a gut feeling that some basic marine electric fundamentals and best practices were not followed on their boat as well πŸ₯²

Sailing SV Delos

We moved her on Thursday β›΅οΈπŸ€™

Sailing SV Delos

Hey Mattias! Ha ha yeah it’s been quite an evolution. Maybe for next Christmas might be nice?

Sailing SV Delos

In regard to the warranty, pretty much the same as any builder. There is a hull warranty and then each component bought (fridges, inverter, batteries, etc) have their own warranties.

Sailing SV Delos

There are multiple ways to check the welds. Xray and dye checks are cost prohibitive and not suited to check areas that are tight like in between stringers and bulkheads however we’ve had a lot of success with soapy water and compressed air followed by real world water testing.

Sailing SV Delos

Last I checked there were some capacity issues with composting heads. I believe the urine is separated off at some times so I think you still need to have a blackwater tank. But I’d be open if we could find one that would serve our purpose. If you know of any decent brands please pass them on.

Sailing SV Delos

Yep, they were MIG welded inside and TIG welded in the outside so on both sides for sure!

Sailing SV Delos

Yep, sure did! We moved her on Thursday. Right next door, it was just a short trip from shed 6 to shed 7!

Sailing SV Delos

Si si! If I had to choose one food to eat for the rest of my life it would be Mexican! Ha ha it's to support Men's Health :) Only one more week! bit.ly/delosmovember

Sailing SV Delos

Hey Courtney, if I'm understanding what you are saying I think we have done something very similar. We actually used a hole saw to cut rounds portions of 5083 hull plate, then drilled and tapped the centers. These were welded to the hull which means the threaded portion is indeed the backing plate. So no loose nuts, and the bolts are the correct length to be flush when inserted all the way. This has the added benefit of keeping the zinc a little bit off the hull, which means we have more of the zinc in contact with the water also (the back side). Is this sort of what you were thinking?

Brian! Bro! What's with the porn-stache? You are living in your Ron Burgundy era? LOL... you do you man...

Justin W Kraemer

Hey Brian for your zincs why don't you get a bolt that, when totally screwed in is flush with the outer surface of the zinc. Then weld a nut in position on the bolt so when you screw it in, it tightens. underwater, this will be much easier to handle. Cheap and should be easy to make plenty

SV Trippin'

Brian turned into a mexican!! πŸ™€ πŸ˜†πŸ€£

Allan

So boat moved on 20th? To where?

Eray Ekici

Oh my, the mustache. πŸ˜‚

Eray Ekici

I hope you plan to weld the backer plates from the thru hull fittings to the hull on the edge in the holes and not just on the inner surface of the hull. If you don’t weld the edge of the hole to the hole edge in the hull you’re creating a stress point. It’s not a hull failure issue, just that hull flexion can cause movement of the plate in relation to the hull and eventually crack the backer plate inside welds. Also, it exposes the space between the backer plate and the hull to moisture and eventual oxidation. Just giving you some experiential info. Boat looks awesome!

Greg Zivic

Question pops up: why would you not consider a composting toilet? Is it a realistic option instead of a black water tank? And how are the welding seams checked for eventual capilar leaks? Further, how is the manufacturer warranty on the boat? Because you are also working on the Boat? How does that work? Thx for the weeks update πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

I'm watching all your episodes round two. it's so much fun to see your trip and all the old comments on them. especially when you know where you are today. I want to get more updates like these 😍 When are you going back to Sweden?

Mattias Persson

Sierra is correct. I appreciate the Movember cause but the moustache bros give me the creeps. Maybe guys should shave their balls or something instead.

Peter K. Noone

So tomorrow is boat move day?

Albert Howes

I think this may have been recorded a couple Fridays back as he said a week and some change.

Juan David

After seeing the Wynn's stray current issue, it's good to see all those large anodes protecting the boat.

Lowell McCormick

Me too. I thought it was grease grooves Brian was showing us.

Lowell McCormick

I wonder, do the Australians have anything like Thanksgiving? That's only a few days away in the US. Oh but I just realized that would be in their Autumn so more around May. 8 - \

Scott C. Wise

wonder if they meant December 20th?

Scott C. Wise

So the move is tomorrow? Would need another update soon

Juan David

The update was a ton of information. Thank you!!! It has been great learning of all the details of structure and function that take a boat a couple more levels up the excellence scale... absolutely fantastic. I send my love to all!!

Spencer Norby

Love the updates. Hope you feel better soon Brian. Kids schools are rough!!!

Ryan Flack

I had to look up "chockfast"... I had no clue what the heck that was! Thanks for the update; coming along for sure!

Peter Kane

It must be so satisfying to work with brand new parts!

Christian Maudal

Thanks for the update πŸ˜€ ❀
