Patron's Only Update: Crossbeam and 1 Week Till The FLIP!

Hey hey friends! We've been working on some pretty cool stuff lately, and I thought it would be fun to just take you for a little spin around the workshop and give you a look at what we've been up to. We're in the final push this week to get everything done that we need to finish before the flip, and the team is absolutely flyin'! In case you're new around here to our amazing Patreon fam and you missed our previous post about it, it's not too late to reserve your spot for our Patron's only meet up next week! It's free to join but we do need to get a head count so make sure and use this link to book it: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/delos-20-flip-party-weekend-brisbane-australia-tickets-926744777577?aff=oddtdtcreator

Sending lots of love and we are getting soooo excited to meet some of you next week and show you Delos 2.0 in real life!

Yes, absolutely! I already ordered them, although they are from Forespar (Marelon) in the US!

Sailing SV Delos

He he still feel like we're a bit crazy, but it's much more interesting that way :). But yes, many hands keeps things moving!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks for all the updates - it’s great to watch it all come together. I’m sure you’ve looked into it already, but I’m mentioning it all the same. When you get there, consider going for composite (plastic) through-hulls and valves instead of metal ones. I switched mine to Trudesign, a brand from NZ, some seasons ago and I’m very happy with them. And no, I have no affiliation with them ;-)

Rune Bjørnstad

I am astounded out how quickly it is coming together. Smart decision but to get an NZ design and fabricate in Australia to ensure the quality. I'm sure NZ would have fabricated well too. NZ are doing some amazing things with boat designs, particularly with the Sailing GP boats and foiling and in previous Americas Cup Yachts. Looks like a tough well thought out design. Thought you were crazy when you where going to build it yourself but now I so you were getting lots of help. You will know a lot now about maintaining and fixing on the move.

Matthew Specht

Brian and crew, you’re absolutely killing it! So proud of what you’re accomplishing… Delos 2.0 is Alive!

Michael Ward

Yep, good thinking!

Sailing SV Delos

Enjoy the Philippines!

Sailing SV Delos

Oh yeah it's called Acetal!

Sailing SV Delos

Hey Courtney, Yeah, good to hear you liked the M2 . It also fits better without the roll bar up there. Definitely a concern always with dissimilar metals. It's not too much contact area up there, it's like two thin strips so I'm thinking about a cap that I can machine out of hard material and just place on the surface up there. I can't remember the name of the material now, but we are machining some of the spacers and bushings for the rudder with it....

Brah looking killah.

Owen William Fritts

@terryhann Agreed, my uncle lost the last two segments of his ring finger in a traumatic amputation that way. They make silicone rings too, you can tuck your real ring safely away at home and wear one of those to work.

Colleen Balch

I noticed in the photo you are in the shop with (I'm assuming) a wedding ring on. I highly suggest you don't work with it on. I know of two tradies that have de-gloved their finger due to their wedding ring catching on something. The fellow that built my house has a tattoo of a ring instead :-)

Terry Haan

So excited for you guys Brian, wish I was coming to the party got Philippines trip coming up on the 16th this coming week. But count of me watching me and my girlfriend both.

William Brandon Kahler

Hey Brian We loved our Mantus 2 but are you concerned about a galvanized anchor stored against aluminum? Just wondering. Cheers!

SV Trippin'

Wow those chain plates are impressive I suppose it is a big vessel.

SV Sirene Spirit

UHMW sheets. They will wear slowly, take high impact and are impregnated with lubricant. Use riv nuts on the hull and bolt through the UHMW into them. Btw, I’m relieved how quickly the hull is getting completed.

Shar & Robert Mecchi

Very cool. Super fun watching your progress. Thanks for the videos!

Peter K. Noone

It is so much larger than I realized! For some reason that walk around really drove it home. Wow!

Mike

Another idea for the chain tube would be PTFE. you could get a sheet and cut a 3 strips to make a U down the channel. It is meant for friction applications and would be easy to replace. This is the stuff I am talking about here. https://www.ensingerplastics.com/en-us/shapes/plastic-material-selection/friction-wear

Paul Kemper

Happy 4th George!

Sailing SV Delos

We were actually discussing that the other day. We’ll know how many boxes or wire we use, they give us weight but not length but I think we could do a sample and extrapolate it.

Sailing SV Delos

Cool Chuck will do!

Sailing SV Delos

Thinking to just sand her to a brushed aluminum look.

Sailing SV Delos

🤣 The focus right now is welding everything internally, so all those seems have been done. Since all three stiffeners are on the inside that adds a lot of strength. Time permitting we’ll weld the outside seams too. But according to Dan inside really holds it all together!

Sailing SV Delos

I just call it the forward bridge deck but there probably is a special name for it 🤣

Sailing SV Delos

That’s a great idea, I’ll check into it.

Sailing SV Delos

Echoing the amazement everyone else is expressing. Admiring the consistent beads you showed us... I hope to see hundreds of those shortly!❤😎⛵

William Flower

More videos like this 👍. Prefect update on progress👍.

Christian Maudal

That is a fine bow point, that bad boy is gonna scoot!

FreeWilly

For that chain tube and the chain locker, maybe you could use a spray-on bed liner as a noise, damper and protectant? It won’t add much weight and it should last a long time. I had it applied to the bed of my work truck about 15 years ago and it’s still holding up to all the abuse I put it thru. Just a thought 🤷‍♂️

Rusty Comer

The rate of progress at this stage of the build is really impressive!

Tom Caban

She allready looks so sturdy. Thanks for taking us along in the progress. You seem like a child in the candy store while walking around the great craftsmanship work ☮️⛵️☮️

Jeanne H. Mathieu

That thing is going to be huge!!

Doug Kent

What does the longeron connect to at the aft end (I have no idea how to spell that)? It’s a long walk from stern to stem! You’re going to have the best home. :) Also looks like you feel better Brian, glad to see it!

Colleen Balch

At timestamp 4:53 there is a "that's what she said" joke ;^) I notice that the hull plates are just tack welded. Will the seams be welded continuously before flipping the boat?

lowell mccormick

Wholly Molly! Progress is being made. 8 - D And it is always amazing to see something that was once just an idea turn into an actual real life object.

Scott C. Wise

Looks awesome Captain! Love the beef in those chain plates. When you flip it would be interesting to see how those plates tie into the substructure 🔔🥃

Matt Phillips

Are you going to do a gel coat?

Peter K. Noone

Loved the tour man. So cool to watch this all taking shape.

SirPGA

Brian, Please check your email for a link to what I suggested about being unsinkable. Chuck

Charles Burns

Wondering how many feet of welds are needed to be ready to flip

Gary Farmer

Great job, it’s going so quickly from this vantage point. Happy 4th 🇺🇸🤙
