Early & Ad Free Access: Life Of A Sailing Family: Our Own Island Mystery 🧐 Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 448

Ahoy Delos Tribe!  This week's episode is a goodie if I do say so myself, and it's jam packed with a little bit of everything.  We've got sailing, adventure, boat work, mantas, and even our very own ISLAND MYSTERY!  Seriously, this is one of the coolest things we've stumbled upon in a long time, and it was totally unexpected!  This will definitely be one of the videos we show to Sierra  if she ever tries to call us boring in our older age 😂 We will kindly remind her of the time we hiked to a beach in French Polynesia where we found unidentified human remains.  We've seen skulls and other skeletons in a few other places like Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Madagascar...but those were all known "attractions" (feels weird calling human remains an attraction, but can't think of the word describe the fact that we went there to see them).  This one we actually just spotted it while walking around, and we have no idea of any of the history behind it.  Have any of you had an experiences like this? PLEASE we want to hear some cool stories!

Sending lots of hugs from French Polynesia <3

Looks like it became disarticulated from the environmental weathering that uncovered it. The spinal curvature looks like it was in a fetal position when it was originally covered. As for how long ago? That is a coin toss. Depends on pH, humidity, rain fall, etc. Would be very curious to hear what the officials determine. Brow ridges suggest a male, but the pelvis would be a more accurate determination.

It is great that Mormor got to experience that! The elation on her face was priceless. With the bunt nose, I believe those were porpoises, not dolphins.

This WAS a good one! So glad you had a much better time and had good food and a mystery to boot! The wildlife and weather and scenery were all amazing! So good Mormor could join you for it all. Also that you are so handy Brian and can tackle all the little things that come up on a boat! Love you guys!

"news from the skeleton" ? ? ? You might get news ABOUT the skeleton, but from it! LOL

Scott C. Wise

Oh that's another interesting idea. Just looked up this link you sent, we were actually on a different island, but yes a tsunami could be another possible explanation for sure 🧐

A magician never reveals his tricks 🤣

Thanks Mark! We actually just a got a new drone recently and we are loving the quality upgrade even from our previous one which was a few years old. And that's so amazing you saw a manta in Sea of Cortez, you're right it really is an experience that stays with you...some of our very favorite animals to meet in the water!

Sailing SV Delos

If I had a dollar for every time the spell check did the same to me 😂 But so happy you enjoyed the episode Myra!

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah we haven't had any news yet but we are SO curious about what they could find!

Sailing SV Delos

Doesn't get much better really! Glad you enjoyed Jeff!

Sailing SV Delos

Hey Scott, no we haven't gotten any news from the skeleton yet, but we should check up on it and see if we can get any updates 🧐 And wow thats a crazy story both of you and your friend. Glad we just found our skeleton, sounds so intense!

Sailing SV Delos

Mormor and mantas...our new favorite M&Ms 😂 Yikes, we're getting cold just thinking about it, so happy we could share a bit of sunshine with you Colleen!

Sailing SV Delos

Those mantas were in hog heaven for sure! And yes, such a cool experience in general but especially to share with Mormor was just incredible!

Sailing SV Delos

It looked like the skeleton was in a slightly different soil, could it have been an old landslide or tsunami that was uncovered? https://www.researchgate.net/publication/27598771_The_landslide_and_local_tsunami_of_13_September_1999_on_Fatu_Hiva_Marquesas_Islands_French_Polynesia

I loved that magic trick where you got the Mantus swivel collar on after you had already attached the chain! Seamless slight of hand!Haha

What an a spot! Drone photography has changed video content so much! I’ve only seen a manta once in the Sea of Cortes, I was diving along a rock wall, and turned around, and there it was! Giant, and 10 feet away, slowly flying by me, until it disappeared in the distance. 40 years ago, and I have never forgotten that sight!

Mark Gumprecht

Fabulous episode as always. Love it when Mormor is with you (my spell check kept trying to make it Mormon 🤣). Cheers!!

Myra Slepoy

Very cool! Hope you get an update on the story about the skeleton down the road sometime!

Michael Conway

Dolphins, mantas and Mormor, oh my. What a triple treat!

I hope I have the spine to watch this one! Well, I did. Those remains were something else! Since this episode is not from just last week, I wonder if you've heard anything about that skeleton? As far as similar stories, I good friend of mine and a couple other guys found a person who had been killed! The spot where they found the body was a little ways down a pretty steep rocky slope. They were there because you can also launch hang gliders at the top of that slope. It all involves a scenic overlook/pull over area off of a state highway. The dead person was a woman who seemed to be sitting (but also slumped over) and kind of looking out into the valley. She had been shot in the back of the head! 8 - \ A pretty gruesome story of my own involved me driving back east from the US west coast in 2016. It was at night and I was close to Los Vegas. I saw a few people up ahead and one of them had one of those flashlights with a red glowing attachment. He was using it to help direct traffic. However, I think I was the only car for a long ways. Well, at the scene there was a SUV rolled over and a BODY lying not too far away. It wasn't moving and the first responders weren't giving it any attention. Obviously, it was a dead body. I don't know how the accident happened but it couldn't have occurred more than 10 or 15 minutes earlier. The body didn't even have a cover over it and there were only about 3 responders there. I figure the SUV violently swerved for some reason, rolled over and "ejected" the person in the process. Oddly, it seems like there should have been a movie crew there and that this was all set up for a scene in a movie. But it was real life! Or should I say real death. 8 - (

Thanks so much. Woke up to the snowplow going by at 5:45am here in Vermont and am just psyched to join you for some sun, good fun, exploring, and Mormor and Mantas! What a week.

Colleen Balch

Wow, the water looked full of plankton, those mantas were having a feast, so glad Kaza and Mormor got to swim with them.
