[Hereafter] Chapter CXCIX: An Officer and a Gentleman

The clues were a little too subtle, I see. A lot of people didn't manage to guess at a certain someone's true name, not even Taylor herself.

The clues were a little too subtle, I see. A lot of people didn't manage to guess at a certain someone's true name, not even Taylor herself. Gotta admit, I thought dating Ruler would give it away to some people, but I guess I shouldn't have worried. The hints weren't blatant enough, so I managed to keep things vague enough to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

And beyond just that... Well, you didn't think we were going to stop at Saberfaces and Rinfaces, did you?

Considering how hyped up Taylor has been it’s gonna be really embarrassing if she messes up. No pressure right Taylor?

Ok first of all, I didn’t expect Mulan to be Ruler. Mad props for that. Second of all, seeing Washington alive and well makes me want to see my own favorite historical figure fighting alongside Taylor. John Fucking Brown. The O.G. abolitionist kicking ass and taking names alongside Taylor would fill me with warm and fuzzy feelings. Now I know you’ve got your own plan, so (unless he’s a part of your upcoming servant roster) the only way I’m gonna be seeing that is if I make it myself. So I will. I’ll post it on both your Spacebattles and SufficientVelocity pages. I just hope it’ll do your fic justice.

These past few weeks have given quite a substantial amount to establishing all the pieces on the board, and I feel were a few weeks away from it finally starting to shake so I want to go over what we've been told and what I feel we can predict. Starting from least to most, Ruler is revealed to be Mulan and a Taylor face, sadly, maximum comedy is not available because Rika's not here but we all know what's next on movie night. Next is the fact that the Grail in the ocean was always there, and is currently a part of a time bomb that will eventually go off, and was the original plan to get rid of Zion. With that being the case, it's likely that the grail they need is the one used to create Cu alter, this still leaves the question of why did Coldren disappear in the beginning of the singularity? The way I see it there are two main possibilities one is that at the start of the singularity, the members of Cauldron were having a meeting at their base which takes place off of earth bet meaning none of them were drawn in when the singularity started. Option two is that there was a incredibly powerful pre-cog telling them do not act for the betterment of the history of mankind you need to not do anything. Dinah is currently working with coil after leaving the patriots however, it's clear she still working for the betterment of the history of mankind. She's just following her own path. This is what she does through ward, so it makes sense for this version of her to do as well. As for what spirits she's playing host to the Cassandra guesses do work, given her abilities of prophecy and what her cape name was I'll throw my hat in and say I find it more likely that it's one of the machine gods given how her power is represented. Circling back to her powers in the earlier conversation, Taylor had about how her reaction to information would affect it. Shouldn't she already know that the peoples reactions to percentages are pre-baked in? And I'll know the two didn't talk much, but they did have that conversation after her rescue about how the numbers were changing and during gold morning Taylor did take control of her and was actively using her powers. On to the biggest news, capes from gold morning, somehow are experiencing residence and gaining flashes of the future as the dream cycles. Taylor has yet to put it together. However, if everyone she enslaved on gold morning suddenly is a part of a dream cycle that must mean that in some form, there's a heroic spirit of them in this singularity. Probably not every Cape is a heroic spirit however, the capes from gold morning would certainly be included as a part of Khepri. Meaning, in someway, shape or form they're here. That then leads to the question of why they're not taking action the most likely answer I come to is that this is likely a caster Khepri with the near omniscience, they gained from controlling nearly every thinker, they're most likely planning for results beyond this singularity, which means if her living self has to watch one of her closest companions sacrifice themselves, so be it. Something tells me no version of Taylor would ever let herself take it easy. This leads to the very curious situation of what will be Taylor's current dynamic with the other parahumans because here's a thing everyone has an opinion on Taylor, Taylor cares about very few of them. Victoria and the wards are well established characters with their own thoughts on Taylor that she couldn't care less on. That's a character with an entire sequel series, and most these two had two conversations where Taylor was standing to the side. Sophia obsesses over her past with Taylor, and now has gone completely silent, but the narrative often makes a point of showing that Taylor always has a bigger fish to fry. Because of that though, it's probably the thing I'm most curious to see how it's handled, so far it seems that the established capes seem to be spending time around the twins, which is a curious way getting to see two groups very different views of Taylor.

It'll be even *more* amusing if she gets Ruler into humming some of the *music,* no . . .? :)

I have *always* wanted to see Ruler's identity as a Servant; thank you for granting my wish! . . . Otherwise, an excellent chapter. The offer has been made to contract Defiant and Dragon (either of whom would be an *interesting* addition to Chaldea, even *with* the issue of Edison - or maybe *especially because* of it), and Taylor is showing the kind of chops we expect from her, while *still* showing growth from her prior self (she fangirled over General Washington, and when was the last time we saw her *relaxed* enough to do THAT?). I'm still looking forward to a reunion with the twins, because I'm *SURE* that Rika will have questions when she meets Defiant and/or Dragon for more than just an introduction - Ritsuka and Mash will, too, of course, but we *depend* on Rika to say what they *want* to, but *won't,* after all. :D

Geoffrey Sullivan

I can't wait for Rika's endless Disney quotes.

I was wondering internally if there would be a Taylorface Servant in the main story, instead of possibly restricted to a joke omake. I will admit, this Ruler’s identity was not remotely one of my guesses, but after who we saw in London, maybe I should have expected it.

Bleed VTFan

I was not expecting a Taylorface servant to be a thing, that's hilarious.

... My guesses were a little mistimed, and I don't see any others. Did I miss some in the Discord server? Though, I don't casually recall or notice in review mention of dating Ruler... (Though, I could misrecall.)
