[Hereafter] Chapter CLXXVII: The Black Rose

...is a real place, but has no connection with either myself or this story. I worried a little bit about it, seeing as it is...technically being used as a front for a crimelord, but when that crimelord is essentially the de facto government in-story, well...

In any case, there was actually a pretty big traversal section in this chapter, but during the editing pass, it was decided to cut it down to reduce bloat a little. I originally wrote it to give everyone a sense of the scale the team would be operating at during this Singularity, but there was nothing essential in the text that was trimmed, so I'm only a little disappointed we got rid of it in the end.

Also, surprise! Bet you weren't expecting to see that person so early, if at all, but there's a reason why, trust me.

Also also, that sword Emiya uses, that was also how they cremated the dead policemen in Scotland Yard back during London. Taylor didn't get to see it back then, so I felt like showing it off a little now.

EDIT: Moving down all the way. 2/1/25

Terrifying thought, isn't it?

Geoffrey Sullivan

Oh fuck, I didn't even think about that. Is it possible that Beast 7 is gonna be walking around in the Thinker's body? That would be real bad, considering that even with the very limited Olga Almost-Kaleidoscope body, Beast 7 was able take on all 7 Grand Servants and stand a chance of winning, much less with a body built for an alien god.

I loved all the reveals of this chapter and it give me some more groundwork to build some more predictions on. First is that the grail has been changing hands and whoever had it last try to get it deep in the ocean. Taylor stops herself from finishing what that line of thought means but we all know that means that Leviathan is here and someone's trying to awaken them. Next are musket wielding revolutionaries are real revolutionaries. However their weapons are actually mass-produced Tinker tech coil guns. Taylor knows there's only really two groups that would be supplying this, what Taylor didn't piece together was that these were handed out to combat servants and their constructs. Meaning that a servant had to be the one creating these. She doesn't know it but she's looking at proof that heroic spirit dragon is here. I given the fact we didn't see any automated call machines she is likely taking the place of Edison. Third is that a lot more than just one city from 2011 is here. There's plastic trash in the ocean, driving to Boston the dense forest clears to a paved highway, and civilians are wearing modern clothing with working cell phones. So time and space is definitely wobbly. Fourth archer Moriarty is revealed to be at Accord's bar working with them. This raises several questions primarily how is archer Moriarty even here? They're not naturally occurring Moriarty only gains the archer class by combining his Saint craft with the minor story of a cursed seventh shot. I'm unsure if the original story ever clarified what he precisely needed to alter his Saint graph I would he need help from a demon killer or direct access to the holy Grail to do this I'm unsure, but I do believe this implies that the Celtic's like in the original did have the Grail at one point. Finally if Accord is his master that would mean that the cursed seventh shot is likely to hit him. Now onto more speculative guessing, I believe that the counterforce has two objectives of the singularity. First is obviously solve the singularity by putting the correct servants where they needs to be. Second is making sure that Skitter Taylor survives. We know that when gold morning arrives Taylor is at the center of it in all predicted futures. So I'm predicting that the servants summoned will have a good compatibility with Taylor or at the very least have incentive on keeping her alive. The reason I'm saying all this is that I'm predicting the reason free service like dragon were summoned over Edison was because they would be more invested in keeping Taylor alive. Having said all that that leads to my next prediction for a free servant from the Earth bet timeline is Theo. Narratively there's two major reasons for this, first were too early in the timeline for regular Theo to have much impact, and second is that I find there in a very similar position that the twins are in and I'm curious to see what kind of dynamic and conversations they would have. As for why the counter force would summon him, I'm still predicting that a certain jack slash is here and we know someone's trying to wake up leviathan and they've got quite the history of poking a sleeping beast.

Darn it, these chapters almost *always* end *just* when things are getting *good . . .* And *well - * I had half-wondered if *he* was going to show up as soon as a "bar" was mentioned, but being proven right is more *concerning* than satisfying. I sincerely *hope* that was a compatibility summon, because otherwise, given who and *what* he was canonically summoned as a *response* to . . . There's *foreshadowing,* and then there's *THIS.*

Geoffrey Sullivan

Accord having Moriarty as a compatibility summon definitely checks out.

Raphael Mort

And yes, running a criminal empire with of parahumans and servants from a bar is something Moriarty would definitely do...even if only to annoy Holmes...

Hector Gregorio

Moriarty is here? fuck, Accord summoned him, didn't he?
