But, before getting into the weighty implications, there's some fluff to be had, and some characters getting some development. It's almost like Ritsuka is starting to come into his own because he's going to need that character development in a few chapters. I wonder why?
Have some shipteasing in there, too. I confirm nothing right now, only that there are no plans to make romance a central point of this story. If it happens, it's going to be there, but not in your faces, okay? This isn't that kind of story. But I'm not going to shy away from people being people either.

2023-09-11 03:58:19 +0000 UTCIt should be noted that Shakespeare was explicitly NOT a magus, or even a spellcaster in Type Moon lore. He's a Caster because he ascended to the throne as a Playwright rather than any kind of combatant and there was no other class that his skillset could theoretically fit into even at a stretch. He literally doesn't know the first thing about magecraft beyond whatever the Grail might grant him. And he relies entirely on his Noble Phantasm and Enchant skills to at best vaguely fake the class skills of a Caster.

2023-07-31 18:09:05 +0000 UTCYes, but EMIYA wasn't exactly a proper magus. He was a Faker and realistically, only knew a couple of spells. He preferred to actually get out and do. Shakespeare was a man of contemplation and eccentricity. A magus.

2023-07-31 14:32:24 +0000 UTCOdd; I'd think the opposite would be the case; a reminder: EMIYA is Rika's compatibility summon, whereas Shakespeare is Ritsuka's. So if anything, I'd say that Ritsuka would be the diplomat (not at all a pacifist, just that combat isn't his first inclination), whereas Rika would be the more decisive and/or militant of the twins. It could also play into whatever dynamic replaces the 100% Servant compatibility that canon F/GO had for either, with Ritsuka's being higher here than Rika's (re: him being calmer and less reactionary).

2023-07-31 14:30:12 +0000 UTCIt basically just sounds like they need to create a checkpoint or bonfire system before the end battle, really. Big battle tomorrow, let's sync up our servants so if they die they remember all this, banzai. Will we see Ritsuka and Rika develop as mages, independent of Servants? In FGO, we don't really see them develop beyond unlocking new Codes. But it'd be intriguing to see one of them really begin to shine, independent of Taylor. I could easily see Ritsuka being this with his more focused personality, with Rika becoming more a diplomat type.

2023-07-31 14:15:51 +0000 UTCYeah, that's going to be rough on Rika. As others have said though, it's a surprisingly realistic outcome, and it ensures that even with the ability to re-summon Servants, there is always going to be a consequence to losing them.

2023-07-30 14:53:30 +0000 UTCHonestly, from a strictly outsider perspective... I'm fine with this outcome. As in, I never believed that the FATE system would be without SOME sort of limitations on its already-(nigh-)miraculous ability to re-summon contracted Servants to near-100% accuracy. By comparison? Having any and all memory 'backups' limited to being updated only whenever there's a stable connection to Chaldea is a downright plausible shortcoming.
