Phantom Harbinger of Calamity
The flagship of Davy Jones. A separate Noble Phantasm to the one possessed by Hendrik van der Decken.
Originally, there was no ship named specifically as the ship captained by Davy Jones. Indeed, it might be said that the specter of Davy Jones required no such thing, for he was the abyss of the ocean, where his Locker kept all things that sank and drowned.
However, some versions of his myth connected the two, especially those of a certain movie franchise, and as a result, the Flying Dutchman ceased to be a separate tale and instead had its fate tied to Davy Jones. For Jones himself, of course, his Locker gives him access to any number of ships, and it is only the convenience of the Dutchman that convinces him to use it almost exclusively.
The Dutchman itself has little in the way of special properties, and its armaments are typical of a ship of its design and build. As a ghost ship, however, it comes with a number of benefits that protect it from impositions of fate and effects that enact instant death, as well as a phantom crew that man it and keep it functioning — the original crew said to have died when the Dutchman sank, whose existence was too weak to ascend to the status of Heroic Spirits. As a result, it is also especially sensitive to anti-spirit weaponry.
The Dutchman’s main method of attack is its broadside cannons, but where it truly excels is in maneuvering and escape. Due to its legend, it has potent self-propulsive abilities, and it can even fly, as its name suggests. It can even outpace a modern battleship and turn at angles that should be impossible for something of its size and shape.
Incidentally, it can also submerge. After all, what does a ship that has already sunk have to fear from the depths of the ocean?
