[Hereafter] Chapter CV: Parting Glass
Added 2023-05-28 15:38:15 +0000 UTCBelieve it or not, there was actually a plan for Taylor to sing "The Parting Glass" this chapter, or at least have the crew sing it, because it's definitely old enough a song to have been around back then for the crew to know it. For various reasons, however, it got left on the cutting room floor.
The middle section got away from me a little. That heart to heart came almost out of nowhere, but I liked it so much that I ran with it and kept going until it felt like it had run its course. I wanted it to feel organic and real, and I also wanted to dump a little bit of lore in both yours and Taylor's laps.
As for the ending, it came to me in a flash as I was writing that section, and I realized, no, Rika's definitely going to go that direction, and I needed to lean into it, so I did. I really like how it came out. Extra fitting, when you remember Blackbeard's intro.

Yeah, Medea and Taylor have a lot in common, sadly enough. Ah, Rika is also a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist. That gives her a lot of leeway with me. :)

2023-06-14 19:56:03 +0000 UTCI quite like how the interpersonal relationships in this story are done, they really do add a certain depth to things. Particularly between Taylor and everyone around her. It consistently makes me want to see more from other characters points of view too though. A few chapters back I found it surprising how Bradamante seems to have come to accept Taylor quite a bit more, being willing to jump into the water right behind Arash and referring to her as Master... and here I'm surprised quite how much Rika seems to put Taylor on a pedestal here. The glimpse we get into Drake and Medea's views on the Chaldea team are also fascinating. And the bit of Mash's view of Taylor before that makes me really curious about their time with the rest of Team A too. I just find that kind of thing fascinating. Hell I'd even find a snippet from Bombe's point of view about how these random pirates are adapting to everything going crazy around them pretty fun.
