FightinCowboy has definitely done all of them, from the original Demon Souls up through to Bloodborne. You won't get all of the lore from those, but the general story and setting should come through. The tl;dr though, is this: the world has gone to pot. The local equivalent of the Age of Gods is ending and when it does, something Dark and terrible will take its place. Your job is to link the First Flame, the source of all that is light and good, by gathering up the souls of powerful gods and demigods (Dark Souls) or the powerful souls of those who were *supposed* to link the fire but didn't (Dark Souls 3), and then sacrificing them to the guttering First Flame to keep things going. Or, you can let the First Flame die and usher in the Age of Dark by becoming the first Lord of the Dark. The game gives you conflicting accounts of which is better for the world and for the humans in it, depending upon which of the primordial serpents you listen to in the first Dark Souls. The one thing both agree on is that the Age of Dark is inevitable; one just happens to think that it's better to stave it off as long as you possibly can.

Which, depending on things, might wind up being a massive 10k oneshot, either way. Taylor's exactly the kind of person to solo the Asylum Demon with a broken sword rather than retreat to safety and go for the backstab, after all.
