Interlude 7.a: Falling Star

Well, okay, I don't think it's that hard to figure out who this interlude features, even just going on the title.
There's still fallout from the Empire collapsing in on itself after Kaiser's death. This is part of that, because he died before he could do certain things that would have led the Empire in certain directions, had he had his canon demise.
Incidentally, yes, that's an OC. Mrs. Watson probably won't feature again, and it's likely we won't hear from our dear Kayden much in the future, either. I wanted to at least put her on this path, though, so we get a little reprieve from Taylor's drama.
I know Wildbow has said - and several fanfic writers have mentioned it, too - that Kayden is nowhere near as good a person as fanfics like to portray her. However, Wildbow had a very dim, dark view of humanity and human nature, and I very much want to be able to show the lighter side, shine a light on the redeeming qualities. Hence, this chapter, which lets Kayden try to redeem herself, rather than having her double down on her bad decisions.

It might be a departure from Wildbow's canon for Purity, but I wanted her to be able to redeem herself. Aster as a vehicle for that transformation only made sense to me. Plus, well, I'm an absolute sucker for parents giving their all for their kids. Maybe we should look out for Brandish having a similar moment, later on? Who knows.
