Jeanne la Pucelle (TMatH front cover)

Finished it.

Ugh, I need one of those fancy tablets. Like the Huion Kamvas. There are about 100,000 hairs on a human head, and it felt like I had to draw each and every one. With my mouse.

Why...

Ahem. Anyway, I think this is done. I might revisit it when I do get that Huion Kamvas, but for now, I don't have any methods of improving it.

Those of you familiar with my complaints about Nasu's Jeanne and how historically inaccurate her appearance is: there's a reason I'm being a hypocrite with this Jeanne. There are lore reasons why she's not a bronze-skinned, dark-haired girl. "The Future of the Maid" goes into both of them, although only one of them is spelled out. The other is that she was very severely burned; the hair that was regrown came back lighter and closer to brown, and years of spending less time outside than she did as a farm girl made her lose some of the darker pigment in her skin.

The white glow of her sword also washes it out a little.

Comments

It's actually my first piece of original fiction, "The Maid and the Horseman, Act 1: Starlight." There's supposed to be an Act 2 and an Act 3, but those have yet to be written. It's about 14.6k words worth of Jeanne d'Arc confronting the Headless Horseman in 1791, with background and buildup to explain why she's there and what she's doing. If you really want it, I can send you a copy.

Caractacus
