Kiritsugu mentions in ep 1 that normally the grail picks someone to suit the master’s personality. Avalon is such a distinctive catalyst there’s no one else it would summon besides Artoria, but if, for example, they had used a shard of the round table the person associated with the round table that best fit Kiritsugu would have been summoned. Casters aren’t always evil, that Caster is evil because it fit Ryuunosuke (the serial killer). New servants are typically summoned every war, that’s why Archer in Stay/Night is different from Archer here. As for whether Kiritsugu is good, that’s on the reader/watcher to decide, but I would call him A protagonist personally. No guarantee of good, but a protagonist. Loving seeing these, and especially all the music notes! Teaching me more things about a soundtrack I already love!
