I can see why its higly esteemed, this old school art style, the funky music, the humor and comedy of its time period. very refreshing to see!

Your comments about this seeming to be from the 90's isn't wrong in vibe (though this is from 2007); part of what it does is try to take boy's shows from that era and age them up a bit, to make the themes, storytelling, and visuals more a teens-and-up affair, while holding onto the bonkers fun of the inspiration material. So we get the more flagrant fanservice, but also more complex storytelling and characters and struggles. (I also thought it was funny how you almost described the fanservice as 'classy,' but I wonder if what you were gesturing towards is that it FITS WELL with the show. It's not shoehorned in to grab eyeballs, we have two kinda larger-than-life aspirational characters for the audience perspective character Simon to bounce off of - Kamina, this balls-to-the-walls masculine thing, and Yoko, this hyperfeminized anima)

No offense to Kyle Hebert (Adult Gohan in Dragon Ball), but from the bit of dialogue I heard from the dub, he just doesn't have that same energy Katsuyuki Konishi (the Japanese VA) has. Gurren Lagann aired back in 2007, so its almost *old enough to smoke*. I hope and believe you'll enjoy the ride!
