Frieren Watch Along 1x22-1x25

I don't want this to end :( Nice to see there will be a second season and a manga to enjoy and catch up with.

Made in Abyss is a visually, musically and emotionally beautiful adventure anime, Kevin Penkin composed the music.

I'll echo the Apothecary Diaries suggestions I have been seeing. It was the anime I watched right after Frieren and it felt like a great follow-up. The other suggestion would be Violet Evergarden. And Violet is actually a pretty short show. 13 episodes, 1 OVA, one 90 minute movie, and one 2hr 20min movie.

I just love how much detail they put in the animation. For example, just look at the start of Clone Frieren VS Frieren and Fern. The music stops. Both Frierens slowly fly up... then everything goes by in a flash! Both Frierens aim at weak points in their defenses, which we can see adapt in real time (no need to tell us, we see it). Then they unleash the most powerful offensive spell he have seen yet in the anime (basic offensive spells are enough to fight modern mages indeed, this would be overkill). A bit later, they use a fire spell so strong that it vaporizes rock as if it was an ice cube. Then we have spells shooting everywhere. Also, I love how Serie keeps trying to convince herself that she doesn't care. "Nah, I swear, I only trained her on a whim. Also, I really disliked how she allowed for magic to be taught to humans. Now, allow me to walk around reminicing so vividly about a random moment with Flamme that I can literally hold her hand, while I have been managing a school for human mages for 50 years." As for other animes you might want to watch... Well, I'm not sure what kind of animes you like. I second The Apothecary Diaries, it would be a good opportunity to talk about Eastern-Asia music and the anime is great. The movie A Silent Voice has very interesting piano music, but it's as gut wrenching as Violet Evergarden. You mentioned Death Note, and it is a really good pick as well, with a peculiar soundtrack. If you're more into romantic comedy, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai has great dialog and character chemistry (don't let the name deceive you, it's not ecchi). And, since I'm here, I might as well add a personal favorite: My Next Life as a Villainess, a comedy isekai with an adorkable female protagonist.

+1 to this, musically Apothecary Diaries is absolutely gorgeous as well, done by Kevin Penkin who worked on Made in Abyss OST, as well as Satoru Kosaki who's one of my personal favourite Japanese composers out there

Any thoughts on waiting for season 2 of the anime before digging into the manga? I'm going to guess 99.99% "no". :B

Violet Evergarden would also be a great follow up, more mature and dark than this with the topics it covers, and Even Call writes the music for that as well. Its also only 9 episodes (with a special ep that takes place in between 4-5) and 2 movies. With insane animation, storytelling and both sub and dub are great.

I will also recommend Apothecary Diaries for a watch. Its like a House M.D set in ancient china. You will definitely love Mao Mao, the main character. She's one of my favorite mc together with Frieren. If you want to go back to listening to some classical pieces there's also Your Lie in April.

I echo Crimsons sentiment apothecary diaries is a delightful anime, beautiful, mysterious, lovely soundtracks, well written characters/enviroment

the apothecary diaries is a mature anime that goes about the same speed as this one , but there are no real fights there , check it out , and see if its something you would like to watch .

The next few episodes will be quite enjoyable for you I think. It'll expand a bit on the topics of teacher-student lineage and inheritance you were talking about at the end. Also quite hyped to hear you're thinking about going with Gurren Lagann at some point after this and FMA. You will not regret it. And finally, if at some point after finishing Frieren you have a need again for an anime abour magic and elves, I would wholeheartedly recommend Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon.

The conversation between Frieren and Serie is one of my favorite scenes in the show.
