Frieren Ep 1x11!

Comments

It differs per person. Personally for a book, I'd prefer the raw experience with my imagination doing all of the heavy lifting. My mind does a better job into turning it into something special than any movie ever can. Though that's mainly for books. If I read one or intend to read one, I avoid watching the movie until at least I'm done with it. For manga it's a different story, they already have visuals to start with. An anime version of that can either be a good thing or a bad thing depending on many factors.

4:10 right here, my favorite track from Frieren

Recon Fox

At least there's a long version of "Beyond the Journey's End", nearly 6 minutes. There's plenty of tracks on the OST that could have used the same treatment for the album release but are shorter than 2 minutes instead.

@9:20: If it helps at all, that song ('Bliss', by Milet) isn't really in its 'original' or 'real' context here. Or perhaps we could think of it as having three 'official' contexts. Japanese audiences would have first heard it with a very minimal, evocative imagery as the ending song to the first 4 episodes, after they aired as a single feature, as you can see here: https://youtu.be/5Ufj38W6-o4?si=tnsHtKD6OTdM0Tfq The other is the artist's upload, which has the full song and just some album art, here: https://youtu.be/xqAJprQyTRU?si=LrS1RaKUrR4T1350 Maybe having three imageries/contexts helps to restore some freedom to make your own associations with the song? Dunno. The song near the beginning, grieving for the dead soldiers, is 'Beyond the Journey's End.' It's my favorite track from the OST, and tragically is cut off here before it really hits its stride.

Your talk about associating music with something was quite interesting. It is pretty much the opposite for me. A lot of the music I listen to, I first heard it in a movie or TV show and associate it with that moment. And that is kind of my preference. I like having that initial image or feeling linked to the music.

Totally get what you're talking about with preferring to hear a piece on its own first, rather than in context - I always read books before watching films based on them for the same reasons. It might help to know that the song was actually first used as a special ending song for the first 4 eps when they aired in Japan, so the context we see it in here actually isn't what was originally intended.

I love the choral piece that plays near the beginning, it's both uplifting and bittersweet. The full track is 5 minutes long and I listen to it pretty regularly.
