This is one of the few shows I will watch exclusively in the dub, so I for one and very happy :)

Probly won't follow along due to the EN dub but hope you have fun, it's a great anime! Also FYI ep 1 doesn't seem to be added to the collection

so jarring for me to hear the English dub haha, i have only ever watched with the original audio. probably my favourite anime series, it's just so well done.

Manda

FMA:B is hands down my favorite piece of literature ever. It's got so many layers to it's narrative and characters and yet doesn't feel heavy handed with it or waste your time dragging on something.

the first few episodes Al's voice isn't the best I don't think the VA had a good direction on where to go but it gets better and more fitting. Most of the English VAs from 2003 FMA are back in their original roles for Brotherhood. 2003 FMA was the very first anime thing I ever saw its one of my all-time favorites it differs in Brotherhood besides the obvious not following the manga after halfway through, but in its tone. Its darker in its situations, the Nina ark for one and when Ed faces off with Greed for the final time, 2003 is a good anime and I would say watch it after Brotherhood. if you are curious about the tonal differences compare episode 3 of Brotherhood to episode 1 and 2 of 2003

Ohhhhhhhhhhh OH I get it lol

Yeah, this episode doesn't quite fit the narrative, but it does introduce many of the central (ha) players before they're brought into the story naturally. Kind of a fun nod to folks who watched the original series, but also readers of the manga. It's a fun romp, but I skip it on personal rewatches. That said, still overjoyed to see your reaction, and I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the score. It's truly one of my favourites!

in case you have not been made aware, do note that several episode have a post-credit scene. and for some reason, a good amount of them actually contain crucial story elements. of course, you know the story already, but it does absolutely make continuity weird at times if you miss those scenes. post-credit scenes are in eps: 6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, 49 (while eps 45, 54, 63, and 64 have special credits)

That's interesting to see support for the Japanese voice track. Usually with Brotherhood most suggest to go with the English dub, even on reactor channels that primarily just do the Japanese voice tracks. Its usually Brotherhood and Cowboy Bebop. I always think back to what Miyazaki said about the subject: 'In any case, he adds, who is to say that a subtitled print is any more authentic? "When you watch the subtitled version you are probably missing just as many things. There is a layer and a nuance you're not going to get. Film crosses so many borders these days. Of course it is going to be distorted."' https://www.theguardian.com/film/2005/sep/14/japan.awardsandprizes It is all personal preference though. For me, there is always going to be something off when it comes potentially humorous moments and timing.

Not into EN vs JP dub debate, not downing either, whichever you prefer, i always go with the source before other languages were dubbed. For the 2nd ep, do JP this time, since it had such an impactful scene, Ed has regret and strain on his voice during that scene, just switch back to EN if you prefer it, it's your experience.

DarkkenSouls

I hadn't read the manga or watched the original show before watching this, so this episode was quite confusing for me the first time I watched it. This episode feels very much like it has an existing audience in mind and saying "here's everyone you know". Glad to see you are watching the English dub. I think Wendy Powell as Envy is an all time VA performance.
