A small detail, but I love that the main Zoltraak melody and Dragon Smasher melody are very similar, musically tying Fern and Stark’s prowess and first in-show combat scenes

2025-07-23 03:21:44 +0000 UTCI see it this way. A single phrase or occurrence presents itself in front of Frieren's eyes. This objectively small thing triggers a memorie that is full of memories, moments, conversations, feelings. I bet if you just said "flowers" in front of Frieren, she would think of Flamme, of Himmel recruiting her, conversations with him, Heiter and Eisen playing in fields of flowers, the moment they entered that destroyed church, the reason why she decided then to use her flower spell, the moment (Spoilers ahead) ...the moment she spawned those flowers the first time she met Himmel and how that led to the formation of their party and many, many more memories... later on probably of Fern and others as well. It is similar to how we humans sometimes associate a smell or a sound to a very complex arrangement of memories that we sometimes don't understand initially because they are subconcious. It's like when a great theme starts with just a few notes and those few notes repeat themselves at a quiet but crucial moment to signify something specific.

2025-04-10 13:18:55 +0000 UTCRewatching the show lets me notice how much care was put in the details of the animation. Like the way Linie simply sits down to not interfere with Lügner dealing with the guards, or how she runs ahead to open the door for him. The hierarchy between them is not told, it is shown. Lügner also never showed any grief for Draht's death, it was very matter-of-fact. Their individualistic tendencies can be perceived in every move they make. Additionally, the clothing animation is so freaking good. Stark putting on his jacket, Fern throwing her robe... They really didn't need to go so hard on the animation, but they did and I love it!

2025-01-13 17:07:01 +0000 UTCFun fact: Stark's Lightning Strike swing to kill Linie is split between frames. Frame 1 axe is up, Frame 2 axe is down. There is no swinging animation on the way down.

2024-12-27 02:41:24 +0000 UTCI think you’re right! Especially the trials later - feels very…deliberate? Somehow? We’ll get into it!

2024-12-26 14:45:22 +0000 UTC1 specific detail a non-Japanese speaker won't get is that when Frieren kills Draht, she counts him as "ippiki" when she says "one down". Now, you may wonder why that's significant. It's because "piki" in this context is a counter word, specifically, it's used to count small animals like insects. That's what Frieren views the demons as, pests to get rid of. That is the level of "idgaf" she is on when it comes to demons xD

2024-12-26 14:33:45 +0000 UTCI had a similar thing with being anti anime for a long time, or rather, I really enjoyed shows like Pokemon as a kid, but in my teens I got very close minded about the anime art style for animation and games. I sort of forgot about it for a while until rediscovering it around a decade ago, and now it's one of my favourite things, I had definitely missed out and I had a lot of fun discovering classics, cult hits and weekly shows.

2024-12-21 14:14:41 +0000 UTCI just noticed that most of the sections showing memories are introduced by a single instrument, usually played quite softly, that's then joined by a few more. That seems particularly significant to me, but I can't quite conceptualize why just yet.

2024-12-21 04:35:18 +0000 UTCThe Manga felt more Cerebtral to me, as a day one reader. Its the way that the art is drawn. The facial expressions feel so much more nuanced and ethereal. It gives me such a somber feeling. I've never cried to Freiren until I watched the anime. Watching the anime, its a much more visceral, emotional feeling. Frieren plays both mediums to their strengths quite masterfully.

2024-12-20 21:05:47 +0000 UTCSomething that I just find really interesting that I don't see a lot of people talk about often, is about how the demon in the flashback is depicted. Sure with the scenes involving Luger and his henchmen are fairly working as a force of evil, but in the flash back with the young demon girl feels different to me. Her intentions at her core is purely for survival, and no matter what, she did what ever she felt was necessary for her to live. When she killed the village chief to offer his daughter to the woman, she felt she was trying remove the hostile tension between her and, I think, as a way so she can continue to living without about her. What adds to it that makes feel for the demons sometimes is that she, and in addition to Luger or possibly other demons, clearly doesn't get that killing someone in order to remedy the situation isn't good. Once she realizes that, she quickly tries to selfishly control the situation and hold the child hostage. Then once Frieren is about to kill her, her last ditch effort is to plea for "Mom" since it's proven to be a chance for her survival.

2024-12-20 19:45:00 +0000 UTCLiterally thought through the past weeks that Violet Evergarden would be something that you may enjoy a lot, emotionally and musically Hope that you'll be able to experience it in the future !

2024-12-20 15:00:14 +0000 UTCOk dumb me, you said few worth of episodes. Well, I with I were you and could experience whats ahead of you for the first time again. That being said Frieren is one of the few anime where each rewatch is just as good because you see more details and appreciate whole thing even more.

2024-12-20 10:40:17 +0000 UTCAnother thing that I've come to understand about myself and why I prefer anime adaptations is that I have a HUGE appreciate for the cinematography and a near obsession with really smooth and well choreographed animation. My mouth drools at a few shots of the scene why Stark fights the dragon as well as Fern vs. the demon. Hell there was even a scene before Fern and Stark started the fight and they were in the house with Graf((?) leader of the city guy) and when Stark was rotating his shoulder and putting on his coat looked incredible to me. I can occasionally go "OOOOO this specific animator did this scene!" because I'm so familiar with their work. That should put into perspective why I prefer watching the anime adaptations so much.

2024-12-20 09:47:16 +0000 UTCAn anime I would recommend after you get to watch all of those is actually what would be considered an unusual one to some. Shangri-la Frontier, its second season is also airing at the moment but I know that it will be a while before you get to watch it. I know you will love it as someone that loves games. Essentially, its about guy playing a very realistic VR game. However, the main character and a lot of what happens just makes you think "they know what a gamer is" or "I too would have done the same thing if I was playing a game like this". I just think you would be enjoy watching it because its just an overall fun anime which is starkly different from everything you have read or watched so far. Other than that one, Your Lie in April would also be a good one because you will recognize a lot of the classical songs played in it.

2024-12-20 07:22:05 +0000 UTCJEEZE MARCO. Thanks for the mega episode. I also appreciate you being really open and transparent about your feelings and views on things. I'm sure you know already that this could invite some ehh... negative attention from a more "passionate" sect of anime viewers. However, I really value open and honest communication, and people with different feelings and views should be able to communicate amicably and try to understand one another.

2024-12-20 07:01:12 +0000 UTCThe "Frieren the slayer" song would be awesome to see you do a video on it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it

2024-12-20 05:24:27 +0000 UTCAnime that goes beyond just a "cartoon/anime". There's alot of them out there that fit that bill. But to name a few that stuck with me and affected my outlook at life and made me reflect myself as an individual would be... Sound! Euphonium 1-2 which leads into Liz and the Blue bird. A Silent Voice, Clannad into Clannad After Story and lastly Steins;Gate (which is a little bit darker but the message was incredibly powerful). A Silent Voice is a movie, so if you can fit it within your timeline. It's extremely worth checking out! While Liz and the Bluebird, which could be watched as a standalone. It is a significantly a better, more beautiful experience after watching Sound! Euphonium.

2024-12-20 04:59:20 +0000 UTCFrieren quickly became my favorite anime of all time even after watching the first episode. The initial premise of starting the show after the defeat of the main villain and Frieren continues her life afterwards is just so great. I finally watched Frieren after Violet Evergarden primarily because of the connection of Evan Call doing the score for both. I had heard a lot of good things, but I loved the score so much in Violet Evergarden that I wanted to continue with that feeling. With Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, that is one of the few anime I would recommend the English dub for. There is one particular performance in the English dub that is one of my all time favorite voice acting performance. It is usually Brotherhood and Cowboy Bebop that get the recommendation for the English dub.

2024-12-20 04:43:06 +0000 UTCFreiren is a show I only appreciate more and more with time, and it's not even old yet! I still don't see that changing years into the future.

2024-12-20 04:36:30 +0000 UTCI think everything that has gone into Frieren as a show really shows the passion behind the project, and there's so many nice details to the music, visuals and sound that just go above and beyond what you'd normally expect for shows nowadays. There's a reason why it's currently holding strong on MyAnimeList as the highest rated anime by a pretty significant margin. I love the insight you add to the emotional messaging behind the music and how it adds context to the show that you just can't get in other ways, thank you!

2024-12-20 04:23:14 +0000 UTCThe song that played during the dragon fight is "dragon smasher" on the official ost and is my third favorite song after "zoltraak" and "frieren the slayer"

2024-12-20 04:14:36 +0000 UTCAfter having watched these here, I feel down knowing that I'll have to wait to hear your reaction to the music in the next episode. Also, I am loving your insights into the music of the show. It feels like it's using the music to tell the story just as it uses the visuals and the dialogue. For some reason, while watching Frieren and listening to the music, I keep getting the feel of Peter and the Wolf.
