You're right; the role of Serena was played here by Kara Zediker, not Sam Sorbo, who I think was simply unavailable. ... I love this episode. It's got Autolycus, it's got Ares and Strife, it's got Falafel (and his Falafelometer), and it has the reappearance of the Golden Hind. There are so many cool elements, including time travel and two Autolyci. ... The really intriguing thing about this episode is that it's an unusual example of Hercules doing something that he knows he shouldn't be doing. Earlier this season, we saw Herc free a convicted man in violation of the law, because his conscience told him it was right. But here, he really knows that he's going against his own ideas of what's right, because he can't stay away from Serena. And he actually ends up making things worse. Eventually, he does improve the situation, but only by going to the brink of threatening to murder someone (his own half-brother.) That's pretty heavy stuff for someone who typically adheres to something very close to a classic comic book superhero type of ethical code. I think "The End of the Beginning," for many reasons, is one of the best episodes in the show's run.
