Yes the character of Will Graham was indeed used in the later Hannibal TV series though as you say he was portrayed very differently in that as was his relationship with Hannibal! As much as I love Anthony Hopkins as Lecter I do think out of all the Lecters Brian Cox here is probably the most realistic as Hopkins and Mads are a lot more theatrical the way they play him. This first movie version of the book Red Dragon is one of my favourite movies of all time and I feel its far superior to the later remake they made. Great cast, atmosphere and music and I could watch this movie again and again. The song they play halfway through the move that you commented on is "This Big Hush" by the group Shriekback. Big fan of their music and that track is actually my favourite song of all time. This movie was more a success on video when it was first released in 1986 and after the Oscar winning success of Silence of The Lambs, it was rediscovered by a lot of people and is now a massive cult movie. I first saw it on video in the 80's and have loved it ever since. By the way that moment in the reaction when the power suddenly went off made me jump! Glad you were able to go back and finish the movie later. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to live with that on and off power problem over there.
