2024-06-28 20:09:56 +0000 UTCThe first appearance of Hannibal Lecter on screen was in Michael Mann's 1986 movie Manhunter (which was based on the novel Red Dragon). It's a great movie and one of my all time favourites and starred Brian Cox as Hannibal. Even though Hannibal remains in the background of the cases in Red Dragon and Silence Of The Lambs his presence is still felt powerfully all through. Anthony Hopkins returned as Lecter in the Silence sequel Hannibal in 2001 with Julianne Moore replacing Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling and then they did a new movie version of Red Dragon in 2002 which this time featured Hopkins (but in my opinion is nowhere near as good as the 1986 Manhunter).
