I like the fact that they didn't shy away from making Proteus genuinely unpleasant to look at. They could have just made him look like a scarred human, or look more scary or impressively monstrous. Instead they made him look like someone you really believe would be shunned by the world. ... The Proteus of myth had the ability to change shapes, and they kept that intact here, but we don't hear anything about him being a sea or river god.
