Wesley didn't deserve the shit he got after the Conner thing and this episode is when Angel finally understood that Wes makes the hard calls when others won't. Ironically if you take that fake prophecy "the father will kill the son" it ended up true metaphorically. Angel deal "killed" conner metaphorically by killing his identity and replaced it with a new one
