So in the United States and Canada, teachers and professors are essentially on a year-to-year contract, meaning that they can be let go after any academic year with little notice. Schools have a limited amount of tenure positions though which are highly sought after. If you get tenure, it basically means your job is guaranteed until you retire barring gross misconduct. On a side note, the FBI would never have a socialite use their money and resources to knowing help protect confidential informants people on witness protection. The FBI has more than enough resources to do these things on their own.
