You're a little off on the ages. Kitara is 14 and Sokka is 15. The reason Kitara and Sokka were left in charge was because all of the adult men went to fight the Fire Tribe and they were the chieftain's children. Midnight Sun refers to how, up in the polar regions, the Sun can be up 24 hours a day during the summer, therefore you have broad daylight even at midnight. Messing with circadian rhythms gets to be too much for some though ave they start to go insane from not having a proper day/night cycle. I don't know why you would think the Air nation was the most advanced. That title easily belongs to the Fire nation since they're the only ones of the four that have learned to forge iron. All three of the others were still working with wood. American voice acting used to always hire adults to do child voices, but Avatar basically proved you could hire kids to do kid choice voices and it would be ok. Now almost every cartoon does it and if the male voice hits puberty, they simply replace him if they need to.
