The way I see it it's either do the treatment, feel miserable and die or don't do it and die. It's a die die situation

2019-08-01 01:48:51 +0000 UTCHis reasoning is somewhat correct, but it leaves out the fact that he will be dying and his wife and kids will have to live around that, knowing that he wont accept the treatment. It's not going to be this happy little life at home, and he realized that he want's his wife to be able to focus on the baby.
